Luo Dongdong is one of the students in Class 7．He joined our middle school at the beginning of the second term．By then we all knew each other well and we each had our own small group of friends．None of the students welcomed Luo Dongdong into any of the groups．
Luo Dongdong looked out of place．He was different from us and，anyway，he did not try to join any of the groups．First of all his clothes were different from ours．They were old and too big for his small body．They were always clean but he looked funny in them．
He brought his schoolbooks to class every day in a large plastic bag．One day one of the handles broke．I lent him my old sports bag to carry his books home．The next day he came to school with a new plastic bag and returned my old sports bag to me．
"I washed it for you，"he said．
"You didn't have to，"I said，"but thanks anyway．"
From that day I began talking to Luo Dongdong during the lunch breaks．I got to know him well．He is a very kind and thoughtful person．His family is quite hard up．His father lost his job two years ago and now earns a living cleaning shoes．His mother helps to make ends meet by working in a shirt factory．Luo Dongdong has a younger sister at home and he looks after her every evening until seven．His parents get back home at that time and his mum cooks the evening meal for them all．Luo Dongdong's mum and dad told him to study hard at school．One day his dad came home with a bright new light bulb so Luo Dongdong could study at night．He wanted his son to do well at school，and perhaps one day go to university．
Luo Dongdong is very clever．He often gives us a hand with our homework．We are pleased to have him as our classmate．He still isn't a member of any special group，but everybody in the class likes him．
