For all these reasons, Mexicans must take care of the good farmland they have. Yet good farming has not always been possible in Mexico.
For many centuries, Mexican farmers had grown traditional crops. These included corn, beans and squash. However, when the Spanish arrived in the 1500s, they tried to introduce new ideas. They thought new plants such as onions, turnips, sugarcanes and bananas would do well in the warm, tropical climate. But the Mexicans wished to continue(继续) with their old ways.
