When we moved to Minnesota, I decided to transplant(移植) Charlie into the garden of our new house. Charlie was the cactus I dug up from our yard in Texas right before we moved. I wanted something to ________me of the home I had to leave.
I opened the front door with Charlie in my arm. A stream of cold air blew on my face as I stepped out of my house. Within the hour I was sitting with Kristin and Kyle on the bench next to the pond. I ________ the ice skates. I knew how to roller-skate, but these skates looked very different.
Kristin laced(系鞋带) my skates for me. When I breathed, icy air filled my lungs. I stood there, shaking with cold. Kyle wrapped his ________around my neck, pulling it up over my mouth and nose. “You’ll get used to the cold,” he said, smiling.
Kyle helped me stand up. “Not too bad,” I thought.
