I am a professor of sports and exercise so I often deal with nervousness in my research with sports people. Actually, most people experience nervousness at some time or another.

If you are feeling anxious, my advice is to first find the cause or causes. Make s list of those things that are making you nervous and work out which ones you can do something about. Focus all of your efforts on managing the causes that you can control.

Most people cannot tell the difference between controllable(可控制的) and uncontrollable causes, so things they can’t control become a big reason for nervousness. Dealing with this is very important if people want to keep a healthy mind.

Simply try to accept the uncontrollable causes of nervousness. You might be worried about the weather on a big day, an accident or an attack on the train, or perhaps just things that other people are doing at work. The results may be very important but there is still no use worrying because you can’t control any of these things. Accept that you can’t control everything. Once you understand this, it becomes easier not to worry.

If a situation, such as swimming, is causing you to be anxious, try to face it as often as possible so that you can get used to it.

It can often help to think about yourself doing the thing that make s you nervous—then close your eyes and imagine it going well. Imagine how the flight or job interview is going to happen so that you can get used to it. This will help you understand that the thing you fear most is probably not going to happen.

Have you heard about “Survival (生存) Holidays”? “Survival Holidays” is for children to go into the lonely place for exciting activities. Now about 1,100 companies are allowed to take children into the great outdoors without their parents.

The reason why people like “Survival Holidays” is that they think being close to nature is good for children. Many children in big cities spend all time watching TV and playing computer games. “Survival Holidays” gives them an important change.

Is “Survival Holidays” a wonderful idea? Maybe it is. Children need more free time to play. They need to be left on their own, without adults disturbing (打扰) them. 根据短文内容,回答下面的问题。

What is a supermarket? In the dictionary, a supermarket is a large self-service department store. Some supermarkets have two floors. When you enter such a supermarket, an elevator will take you to the second floor. Here you can buy things such as CDs, pens, clothes, TVs and refrigerators. After you have collected the things you want to buy on the second floor, you can go downstairs to the first floor where food and drinks are sold. You can also buy fresh fruit, vegetables and meat on this floor.

People like to go shopping in the supermarket. Here are some of the reasons.

First, the prices are reasonable. The prices are lower than in special shops and you can choose whatever you want, without going place to place.

Second, the service is excellent. You can walk around freely and no one will ask you “What can I do for you?” If you can’t find something, just ask a service person and he or she will tell you where it is at once.

Third, the quality is good. If you get home and find the food has gone bad, you can return it and they will say sorry and change it for you.

Nowadays many people don’t have much time to walk from one shop to another, so people choose to go to the supermarket in order to save time and money.

What’s more, if you don’t want to buy anything, you can just come and look around in the supermarket. It’s a good place to have a walk.
