    Baseball is one of the favorite sports in the U. S. A. Children play baseball in sports fields or parks.

    At summer picnic, there is often an informal baseball game. Boys and girls, young and old take turns to bat. There are nine players on each team.

    The baseball season goes from April to September. During this time, baseball matches are showed on TV and members(成员) of the important baseball teams become America’s heroes (英雄). At the end of the season, the two top teams play against each other. Many baseball fans go together to watch the game. Millions of others listen to the radio or watch the television. People seem to talk only about the game. Even long after it is over, they still talk about the result and the players.

    American football is perhaps the most popular sport in the U. S. A. The football season begins when the baseball season ends. More people are interested in football than baseball. When there is an important game, thousands of people sit beside radios or in front of television sets to get the result.

    Dreams are expressions of thoughts, feelings and events that pass through our mind while we are sleeping. Everybody dreams. But only some people remember their dreams.     Early in the twentieth century, two famous scientists developed their personal ideas about dreams. Swiss (瑞士) psychiatrist Carl Jung worked closely with Freud for several years, but he believed dreams could help people grow and understand themselves. He believed dreams provide solutions to problems we face when we are awake. Today we know more about the science of dreaming because researchers can take pictures of people’s brains while they are sleeping.[来

    Other researchers are studying how dreaming helps our bodies work with problems and very sad emotions (感情). Robert Stickgold is a professor of psychiatry (心理学教授) at Harvard University in Massachusetts. Doctor Stickgold says that when we dream, the brain is trying to make sense of the world. He does not agree with Sigmund Freud that dreaming is the way we express our hidden feelings and desires (愿望).

    Scientists believe it is important to keep researching dreams. Doctor Stickgold says it has been more than one hundred years since Sigmund Freud wrote his important book about dreaming. Yet there is still no agreement on exactly how the brain works when we are dreaming or why we dream.
