    　　All the kids in my neighborhood knew that on summer evenings, between 5 pm and 7 pm, the Ice Cream Truck* would visit our block．If it was quiet enough, we could hear the Ice Cream Man's song playing from one neighborhood over．Most of the time, though, we didn't hear it until it was almost too late．

    　　The song The Piano Man came from the truck's loudspeaker *．It would start cries down the street of： “The Ice Cream Truck is coming! ” If the Ice Cream Man didn't see any kids on the street, he wouldn't stop．So we'd run as fast as we could to our moms for some dollars and coins, hoping to catch the Ice Cream Man．Younger brothers and sisters would usually go to the truck and make it wait while we fetched our money．The truck was white and square, like a mail truck, but with pictures showing the ice cream bars and Popsicles and their prices： “Superman bar ＄1.50; Choco Taco ＄1.00; Creamsicle ＄0.75．”

    We asked thirty young people between fourteen
