Everybody hates rats. But rats may soon be man’s new good friend.
What happens after an earthquake? We send in rescue(援救)dogs. Why? Because they can smell people. Dogs save lives. They help rescuers to find living people. But dogs are big and they can’t get into small spaces. So now a new research project is using a smaller animal to save lives: the rat.
How
does it work? First, the rat is trained to smell people. When this happens, the rat’s brain gives a signal(信号). This is sent to a small radio on its back, and then the rescuers follow the radio signals. When the rat’s brain activity jumps, the rescuers know that someone is alive. The rat has smelled that person.
Although there are already robots which can do this job, rats are better. “Robots’ noses don’t work well when there are other smells around. Rats are good at that.” Rats can also see in the dark, they are cheaper and quicker to train than dogs, and unlike robots, they don’t need electricity!
The “rat project” is not finished, but a scientist says, “It would be great. A rat could get into spaces we couldn’t get to, and a rat would get out if it wasn’t safe.” Perh
aps for the first time in history, people will be happy to see a rat in a building (but only after an earthquake, of course).

How many things can you see in the night sky? A lot! a clear evening you might see the Moon and some planets. And thousands of sparkling stars , too.
You can see even with a telescope. You might see stars where you only saw dark space before. You might see that many stars look larger than others. You might see that some stars look white are really red or blue.
But scientists believe there are some things in the sky that we . We can’t see them with the biggest telescope in the world, even when it is the clearest night of the year. That’s they’re invisible. They’re the mysterious dead stars called black holes. You might find hard to imagine that stars die. After all, our Sun is a star. Year after year we see it up in the sky, burning brightly, giving us heat and light. The Sun certainly doesn’t seem getting old or weak. But stars do burn out and die after billions of years. As a star’s gases burn, they give off light and heat. But when the gas runs , the star stops burning and begins to die.
So the next time you stare up at the night sky, remember: there’s more in the sky than that meets the eye. amazing space it is!

What’s the most important thing for you to have in your life? Somebody says hard-work, others suggest knowledge, love and luck.
If you arrange the 26 English letters alphabetically(按字母表的顺序) and use numbers to represent each of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c…, you can change an English word into a number. So hard-work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11=98, meaning 98 is its mark; knowledge: 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96, while love :12+15+22+5=54, and luck: 12+21+3+11=47, a small mark. None of these words can give one a full mark. What about money or prayer(祈祷)? They can’t , either.
Then what else? Don’t be worried. You can always find an answer to a problem in your life, when you change your way of looking at things or doing things, or your attitude. Yes, attitude is the word. See for yourself: attitude: 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100, a full mark.
Different attitudes lead to different ways of life. Most times people hope for a better life. It is possible that you will have a change for the better after you have changed your attitude.
When you change your manner and become friendly towards others, you’ll meet more smiling faces. In the same way, if you take a positive(积极地) attitude towards failure(失败), you’ll find you may have more chances to succeed.

3.In the writer’s opinion, what is the most important thing in a person’s life?
A. Attitude.B. Knowledge.C. Hard-work.
4.If you meet with problems, the best way out is to _________.

C. change your attitude
