Here's one very simple but lifechanging advice that I first heard from Brian Tracy. Cut down on the TV at night by just one hour. Instead, use that hour to read books that could improve your life.

If you're a salesman, google for the best and most useful books on improving your sales.

This applies (适用) to all fields, not just the work-related (与工作相关的) ones. Maybe you want to improve your health, become a more energetic person. Or maybe you want to improve your study, your relations or perhaps do some personal development.

One hour a day is not much. But if you read for one hour a day on weekdays, that's about 260 hours a year. That's a large number of books and a lot of useful advice.

If you follow the ideas, who knows what great things and feelings could come into your life. Also, all that information and advice will start to open up your mind. You will start to see more chances in your life.

Now, you might think something like this:

1. I really don't have the money...

Answer: Visit your public library or search the database (数据库). Or look for books that are used in places like amazon.com.

2. I really don't have the time...

Answer: Buy audiobooks and listen to them in the car while driving to and from work. Or copy them to your MP3-player and listen while riding your bike /bus to work or school. Recently selling audiobooks through MP3-downloads has become popular...

Shut off the TV a little earlier and start reading.

1. What is Brian Tracy’s lifechanging advice about?

A. Watching TV.                                         B. Listening to MP3.

A. read work-related books                          B. become more energetic

C. improve your study                              D. improve your relations

3. Which is NOT true about reading an hour a day?

A. It will open up your mind.

B. You will have about 260 hours a year to read.

C. You will read lots of books and get much useful advice.

D. It will probably bring great things and feelings into your life.

4. What should you do if you really don't have the money to read?

A. To buy some books from amazon.com.    B. To download MP3 free.

C. To visit the public library.                D. To borrow audiobooks and listen to them.

5. What is the writer’s idea about audiobooks?

A. They are more useful.

B. Listening to audiobooks is easier than reading books.

The Wilsons decided to go overseas for vacation. They had a family meeting to plan the vacation.

"First," Mr Wilson said, "we should decide where we are going."

"I don't agree," Mrs Wilson said, "I think we should decide when we are going first. We don't want to go to places when they are cold."

Mr Wilson agreed, so the family's first decision was when to go on vacation. They decided to go in July.

"Now we can decide where to go," said Mr Wilson.

"But, Dad," Ben said, "don't you think that where we go depends on(依赖,取决于)how we go? If we plan to fly, we can go a long way. If we plan to drive, we can't go far."

Again, Mr Wilson agreed, and they discussed this. At last they agreed to travel by plane.

And so the planning meeting went on. The next day, one of Mr Wilson's friends at work asked, "Where are you going for vacation?"

"Well," Mr Wilson told him, "we are going in summer by plane, but I don't know where we are going!"

Jack, a middle school student, used to work hard at all his lessons. He usually got up earliest and went to bed latest of the family. He hardly ever did outdoor activities. His parents worried about his health. They asked him to get relaxed by watching TV or playing sports, but he wouldn’t follow them. Finally, one day he fell ill and had to stay in hospital for several weeks. Now Jack is in poor health. Though he goes to school every day, he doesn’t do so well in his studies as before.

From Jack’s story, we can see that health is very important. If you become sick, you may not go on with your education, and then you can’t make your dreams come true. On the other hand, if you are strong, you can enjoy yourselves to do everything well.

Then how should you keep fit? First, you should spend some time exercising every day to keep fit. Second, you must go to bed and get up early. If you get up early, you can breathe fresh air (呼吸新鲜空气) and make your heads cleverer. In a word, health is no less important than working hard for us.   Up to 65% of children don’t get as much sleep as they should do, and this can make them nervous and slower at school, scientists say.

So how long should young people sleep each night? The answer is between eight and ten hours. If you don’t get enough sleep at night, you’ll have less energy the next day.

But the scientists say many children have missed out on 4,500 hours of sleep by the time they are seven years old. They say that children miss sleep because they have TVs and computers in their rooms, and busy parents don’t read to their younger children at night any more. The traditional “bedtime story” helps children to relax and fall asleep peacefully. Children with TVs and computers in their bedrooms were more likely to sleep badly, and to get less than eight hours’ sleep. Even losing one hour’s sleep a night can mean that children do less well at school.

German scientists think that your brain (大脑) keeps working while you are asleep. To show that they were right, they gave two groups of people a problem to work out. One group went to sleep, and the other group stayed awake. The result? The people who slept worked out the answer more quickly. This showed that their brains had been trying to find the answer while the people were asleep. So, make sure you get enough sleep tonight, and you’ll be at your best tonight , and you’ll be at your best tomorrow!

A. Their parents’ noise.                  B. Bedtime stories.

C. Too much homework                  D. TV and computers
