I came to study in the US last fall. My life was quite simple when I arrived at Andover. Although I had quite a few after-class activities, I didn¡¯t take any official leadership position.
This changed when I received an email from Ms Griffith, my cluster dean (ËÞÉáÂ¥Ö÷ÈÎ), that a new female DC Rep was needed. DC Rep Discipline Committee Representative. students living in school break serious rules, like taking drugs, getting drunk or cheating in their studies. Such students must be punished£¨³Í·££©. The punishments are by a DC Rep, two student representatives£¨´ú±í£© and the cluster dean. I was really interested in becoming DC Rep for my cluster, Pine Knoll, so were five other students. We had to hold an election and Ms Griffith asked us to write to be sent to everyone in Pine Knoll.
I thought hard about what to . I didn¡¯t want to make any promises, because they are difficult to keep. I didn¡¯t want to say I was experienced, because I was not. So I started my speech by explaining I wanted to become DC Rep. ¡°I want to serve Pine Knoll.¡± I wrote .
I made three posters that said ¡°Vote For Teresa¡± and put them on every exit of my cluster so that people would my name when they went to vote.
Although I tried hard, I didn¡¯t win the election£¨Ñ¡¾Ù£©. I was disappointed, but my positive nature did not allow me to for very long. I actually when my friends tried to comfort me. ¡°Teresa, I am sorry that you didn¡¯t win the election,¡± they would say.
¡°No, don¡¯t be sorry for me. I am very happy to have taken part in the election,¡± I said.
It is true that the process is much more important than the . I am surprised and happy to discover my hidden .

Are you carrying too much on your back at school? I'm sure lots of children of your age will, say "Yes". Not only the students in China have this problem, but children in the United States also have heavy school bags.
Doctors are starting to worry that younger and younger students are having back and neck problems as a result of schools bags being too heavy for them.
"It's hard for me to go upstairs with my bag because it's so heavy, "said Rick Hammond, an 11-year-old student in the US.
Rick is among students who have common school bags with two straps(´ø×Ó) to carry them, but many other students choose rolling(ÓйöÂÖµÄ)bags.
But even with rolling bags, getting up stairs and buses is still a problem for children. Many of them have hurt their backs and necks because of the heavy school bags.
But how much is too much? Doctors say students should carry no more than 10% to 15% of their own body weight.
Scott Bautch, a back doctor, said children under Grade 4 should stay with 10 % . But it is also important that older children don't stay with over 15 %, because their bodies are still growing. "Children are losing their balance and falling down with their school bags, "he said.
Parents and teachers are starting to tell children to only take home library books they will be reading that night. Some teachers are using pieces of paper or thin workbooks for students to take home.
One of the best answers is, as some children said, to have no homework at all!

I think the Buddy Club is great. I really enjoy talking with the older students about school life and growing up. They can tell me a lot. One student told me how he relaxed before exams. Another student told me about great websites about learning History and English.
The Buddy Club is also a good place to just forget about school altogether! One of the older students taught us origami (ÈÕ±¾ÕÛÖ½). We made paper planes, birds and hats together. The table tennis tournament£¨½õ±êÈü) was a great idea. I didn¡¯t do very well, but I learnt a lot from watching the doubles tournament won by a fourteen-year-old girl and a seventeen-year-old boy.
Last year, we had the annual (ÿÄêµÄ) Buddy Club Picnic. Everyone enjoyed the games we played. After I learnt how to fish, I caught two fish in the lake. I think it might be a good idea to change the Buddy Club Picnic to a weekend camping trip. We could learn how to put up tents and how to find our way through a forest. Many of the older students know how to do this already, and I think they would like to teach the younger students.
I want to say again how much I enjoy the club. When I¡¯m older, I will make friends with younger students. Then, I can tell them all about school life and growing up.
