Frank Woolworth was born in Rodman, New York, in 1852. His family were very poor farmers, and there was never enough to eat. Frank decided he did not want to be a farmer. He took a short business course, and went to work as a salesman in a large city.
Woolworth realized he could attract people’s interest when he sold goods(商品),but he soon learned something more important. One day his boss told him to sell some odds and ends (小商品 ) for as much as he could get. Frank put all these things on one table with a sign which said FIVE CENTS EACH. People fought to buy the things and the table was soon cleared.
Soon afterwards, Woolworth opened his own store, selling goods at five and ten cents. But he had another lesson to learn before he became successful. That is, if you want to make money by selling low-price goods, you have to buy them in large quantities(量) from the factories. Once, Woolworth went to Germany and placed an order (订单) for knives. The order was so large that the factory had to keep working 24 hours a day for a whole year. In this way, the price of the knives was cut down by half.
By 1919, Woolworth had over 1000 stores in the US and Canada, and opened his first store in London. He made many millions and his name became famous in the world. He always runs(经营) his business according to strict rules, of which the most important was: “THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.”

Tanzania Tarangire is a national Park which lies in Tanzania. The park itself covers an area of around 2,850 square kilometers, making it the sixth largest park of its kind in the country.I recently visited Tarangire to see what it was like.

One of the first sightings upon entering the park which I found was a huge group of elephants. Our guide told us that Tagrangire was probably the best place in Tanzania to find large group of elephants, and that their population in the park was around 2,500.We continued to watch the elephants as they stood under trees and scratched themselves against the trees to hit the spot of an itch.

To the right of the elephant group, we noticed a big tree! Our guide informed us that this was a Baobab tree and that they could live for hundreds of years.Compared with this tree, the elephant just looked like dwarfs (much smaller plants or animals)! We were informed that Tarangire was one of the best National Parks in Africa to see so many Baobab trees.

As we continued our drive through the park, we finally reached a watering hole. Our guide warned us that there were lions all around us.It took us all a while to find them, but there they were! Most of them are resting in the shade under bushes, but there was one that was drinking from the watering hole directly in front of us.We then noticed just to our right, there were a couple of fresh zebra bodies — it seemed as if the lions which were resting had killed them! We were unlucky not to have seen the kill, as our guide had mentioned that the zebra bodies were fresh and the kill had happened within the last hour.

Our final big sighting was one that none of us were expecting to see, even our guide! We stopped at a place where there were quite a many cars, with a sleeping leopard(美洲豹)there! We took photos and watched its surprising body before returning to our hotel as it was getting late.

So, I hope you enjoyed my description of Tarangire, and add this amazing park to your very own Tanzania travel route.(401)

阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。

Have you had this experience? You are watching a movie. A man is shooting(射击) on the screen. The picture is so real that you think he is shooting at you.

Three-dimensional(3D)movies use special technology to make pictures seem more real and exciting than two-dimensional ones.

So far we can only see 3D movies in the cinema with a special screen and projector(放映机). But soon, we will be able to watch them in our living rooms. Last month, Woods Company told reporters that it plans to bring 3D televisions to homes in the near future.

“The 3D train is on the track, and we are ready to drive it home,” said the President. 3D movies and TV programs are fun to watch, but do you know how they are made? It is much easier to understand if we do an experiment.
Hold one of your fingers up at arm’s length and close one eye. Then try closing the other eye. As you move between open eyes, you should see your finger “jumping” left and right against the background.

This happens because our two eyes are about 4 cm away from each other. The separation causes each eye to see the world from a different angle(角度). The brain puts these two views together. What you see becomes three-dimensional.

3D movies are made using two video cameras at the same time, which creates two different images(影像). When the movie plays in a cinema, two projectors put the two images on the screen. With a pair of 3D glasses, the two images are separated and each image only enters one eye. Your brain puts the two pictures back together, and the pictures on the screen become three-dimensional.

  1. Do 3D movies use special technology to make pictures?

  2. What does Woods Company plan to do in the near future?

  3. What can you see when you move your finger between open eyes?

  4. How many video cameras are needed when making a 3D movie?

  5. What is the passage mainly about?
