Dear Mr. Zhang,

We have held a discussion about whether it is good or not for a top student to share a desk with a slower student.

Some are for the idea. As they know, everyone has strengths as well as weaknesses. Although they are not good at lessons, they might do well in other fields like sports or arts. Therefore, they can learn from each other, and they may develop friendship. In addition, top students can help slower ones gain self-confidence by helping them with their lessons, which benefits them all.

However, others don't hold the same view. They think some slower students are always making trouble, such as keeping talking in class, breaking school rules, which may lead to them forming bad habits. Besides, slower students often ask top students questions, which has a bad effect on their studies.

In my opinion, I'd like to choose to share a desk with a slower student so that we can learn from each other and make progress together.

Yours,

Li Ping

The junior high school graduates have to take a P.E. test in many places around China. The full marks are usually 30 points and it counts for much in the senior high school entrance exam. 1..ÒòΪ¶ÔÇàÉÙÄê¶øÑÔ£¬±£³Ö½¡¿µÊǷdz£ÖØÒªµÄ¡£

In Nanjing the test is held in April. Students have the test in their own schools. Each student is tested on three sports. They can choose long jump, basketball dribbling (ÔËÇò) or volleyball. 3..Most students find the test easy and more than 90£¥of them can get full marks. That¡¯s because they have been training for it during the three whole years. Students in Junior Three usually do lots of practice in P.E. classes. 4. .The training makes the test easier than it seems to be.

Students in Nanjing don¡¯t need to run a lot for the test, but students in Beijing must do lots of running for the test. Running is one of the sports in test. So in P.E. classes, they usually run a lot. Sometimes they have to run 3,000 meters in one class. Some students are tired of running, 5..they don¡¯t think running is the most necessary sport for teens. They should be allowed to choose their favorite sports, such as swimming or dancing. But most teachers and parents welcome the P.E. test. They say it helps students build up their health.

Top student Lin Yijian had a problem recently. The 14-year-old boy from Xiamen used to get marks of over 110 points (out of 120 possible points) on his math tests. But during last semester's final exams, his math score was only 90 points.

It was a shock. "I didn't know what happened," said Lin, who kept feeling nervous and frustrated about math during the following month.

Like Lin, many of us have setbacks (´ìÕÛ) in life. What would you do to deal with these setbacks? Would you just let them be and give up?

Lin chose to face his problem. His parents and teacher also gave him help. After some hard work he now gets marks between 100 and110 points on his math tests. Although he still isn't at his original (ÔÀ´µÄ) level, Lin doesn't panic anymore.

"Don't be scared by setbacks," he said. "You will beat it."

Chen Xingzhu in Shenzhen also has a story to tell. The 15-year-old girl is not good at doing sit-ups (ÑöÎÔÆð×ø), which is necessary for the coming high school PE entrance exam. One has to do at least 35 sit-ups in a minute to pass the test. Most of Chen's classmates can do 40. However, Chen could only do 20.

Feeling worried, Chen decided to do something. She did sit-ups for half an hour every day after school. Now, after a month, she can do 30 sit-ups a minute.

"I finally found what made me slow through continuous practice and then improved little by little," said Chen. "I believe next month I will be able to do 40!"

1. What problem did Lin Yijian have recently?

A. He used to get high marks.

B. He did well in math.

C. He did not so well as before in math.

D. He had no time to study math.

2.According to the passage, which is NOT true among the following statements?

A.Lin chose to face his problems.

B. His parents and teachers also helped him.

C. After some hard work, he now gets marks over 110 points.

D. Lin faced his problems instead of giving up.

3.What problems does Chen Xingzhu have according to the passage?

A. He is also not good at math.

B. He is also not good at PE.

C. He is also not good at sit-ups.

D. He is also not good at PE entrance exam.
