The way to see water's temperature

Here's how to tell whether a glass contains£¨ÈÝÄÉ£©hot water or cold water-without ever touching it£¡

You'll need

•2 drinking glasses that are exactly alike

•Ice cubes£¨¿é£©

•Adult helper

•Bathtub£¨Ô¡¸×£©or shower

•Pencil and paper

1.Fill one glass with cold tap water and cool it with ice cubes. Don't use a lot of ice; just cool it a little.

2.Fill the other glass with very hot water.

3.Pour both glasses out into the tub at the same tirme and speed.

Repeat this process£¨¹ý³Ì£©a fewtimes£¬and watch closely each time.

4.Ask your helper to fill the glasses again and not tell you which is which.

When you see the water splash in the tub.guess which one is the hot water.

5. Repeat several times. Keep score on your paper.

You should be able to guess correctly more than half the time.

Cold water is more dense£¨³íÃܵģ©than hot water.so a cup of cold water is just a little bit heavier than a cup of hot water.

When you pour hot water onto a hard surface£¬it splashes£¨½¦Æð£©around more than the cold water because it's less dense.

When was the last time you gave or received a hug£¨Óµ±§£©? Do your parents hug you before you go to school? In Western countries, it is quite common to greet close friends or relatives with a hug.

You may hug your teammates£¨A£©ÔÚÄãÓ®µÃÀºÇò±ÈÈüÖ®ºó. If one of your friends is having a bad day, you can hug them to cheer them up. Friends who haven't seen each other for a long time will usually hog each other when meeting.

£¨B£©Of course, people in different countries have different opinions when it comes to hugging. My Chinese friends told me that hugging is considered to be very close in their culture. It usually only happens between people who are really close to each other, like couples. Chinese people don't usually hug in public,£¨C£©___________.

But people's idea toward hugging can also change.

£¨D£©I remember watching a video story about a "hugging party" that was held in Shanghai. A local artist held the party, inviting strangers and asking£¨E£©___________to hug each other.

The Chinese clearly looked uncomfortable. However, after the party,£¨F£©some of them changed their minds. They decided that hugging doesn't have to be awkward£¨ÞÏÞεģ©and can actually be quite nice. So next time you see your mom or dad, give them a hug-see how it makes you feel.

When Emma Yang was seven years old, her grandmother became forgetful. Over the next few years, those memory problems, caused by early Alzheimer's disease, worsened. Yang, who learned to write computer programs at an early age, decided to create an app to help. "When I was about 11, I got really interested in using technology for social good to help other people around the world ," says Yang, who is now 14.

In her app called Timeless, Alzheimer's patients can look through photos of friends and family, and the app will tell them who the people are and how they're related to the patients. The app also includes a simple reminder screen that lists appointments for the day, along with a simple contacts screen that shows photos of family members along with names. If a patient tries to call a contact repeatedly, the app will flash a quick reminder: "You just called less than five minutes ago." A "me" page shows the patient's own name, age, phone and address.

"There are no apps that really help Alzheimer's patients with their daily lives, "Yang says. "A lot of times people think that the elderly can't really use technology, but in fact,if you introduce it to them carefully,it can really benefit their lives. "

Catherine Possin,an associate professor at the UCSF Memory and Aging Center, agrees. "It can be hard for somebody who has a lot of memory problems to learn a new technology,"Possin says. "But if the app is simple enough, they can learn to use it through practice. "

Looking through the photos,Possin says, can be a type of social activity for the patient, helping keep family members and friends in mind. It also could strengthen memory. "I think it can be very helpful for patients to exercise memories and make them stronger and make them more resilient£¨¿ÉѸËÙ»Ö¸´µÄ£©in the face of the disease."
