In the past twenty years, riding bicycles has become more and more popular among people of all ages. 83 Bicycles have long played an important part in the liyes of American young people. But today an even greater number of adults cycle along roadsides and bicycle paths. These new riders are often trying to become fit or lose weight. They have found that bicycling is a pleasant way to stay healthy
This is certainly good for health. But it has also brought some problems. With all these added people on the road, bicycle safety has become a matter of real importance.
Bicycle safety is mostly a matter of common sense. People should ride only on bicycle paths where they will not be badly hurt. There are also a number of rules that riders should follow, especially when riding on streets or highways. Bicyclists should never ride against the traffic, nor should they carry other people on their bicycles. They are also supposed to ride in single line on busy streets and to "walk bicycles across the busy intersections (交叉路口) . 84By following these rules, bicycle riders will not only stay healthy but also be safe.
In one recent year, the National Safety Council reported that 34 thousand bicycle riders were hurt in highway accidents. In that same year, another six hundred riders were killed. Since the introduction of crash helmets (头盔) in 1980, the number of injuries (伤者) and deaths from bicycling accidents had gone down. Today, more and more riders realize the dangers of bicycling. They are wearing helmets and paying closer attention to cycling rules.

You know you have to read "between the lines" to get the most out of anything. I want
to tell you something important during your reading.
You shouldn’t mark a book which isn’t yours.   61  If you think it useful to mark
books, you will have to buy them.
There are two ways in which one can own a book. The first is to get the right by paying
for it, just as you pay for clothes and furniture. But full ownership comes only when you
have made it a part of yourself.   62
There are three kinds of book owners. The first has all the best sellers -- unread and untouched. The second has a great many books.   63  The third has a few dog-eared (翻折的) books, which are marked from front to back.
Why is marking a book necessary? First, it keeps you awake. In the second place, reading is thinking.   64  The marked book is usually the thought-through book. Finally, writing helps you remember the thoughts you had, or the thoughts the writer expressed.
If reading is to learn anything more than passing time, it must be active. The book you
read for pleasure can be read in a state of relaxation, and nothing is lost. But for a great book,
rich in ideas, reading must be active.   65  You should come up with an understanding of
what you have read.
根据材料内容,将A-E五个句子填入文中空缺处,使短文内容完整、正确,并将其标号填写在下面题号后的横线上。
A. You can’t let your eyes move across the lines.
B. But most of them are as clean as the day they were bought.
C. And thinking can express itself in words, spoken or written.
D. People who lend you books expect you to keep them clean.
E. The best way to make yourself a part of it is by writing in it.

Gao Xiaosong, who is a famous musician, movie director and the writer of the famous song My Deskmate, has been sent to jail(监狱) and will stay there for six months for drunk driving.?
“I've nothing to say for myself and I'm willing to be punished(惩罚),” he said when he was standing in the court. “What I want to say is that I feel sorry for what I?ve done. I thought alcohol(酒精) could bring me freedom but never realized drunk driving could take away others freedom. And now I've lost my own freedom because of drinking. Anyone who drives after drinking doesn?t think much of human life. If Gao had cared, he would have left his car parked outside the restaurant and took a taxi home, and he would have thought about a road killer he would become. It's fair to say that his behavior can not be excused in modern society. Gao may not have killed anyone, but by choosing to drive a car while under the influence of alcohol, he and the large number of others who do the same have made the dangerous decision that may possibly hurt other people.
小题1:What was the reason for Gao Xiaosong's being jailed for six months??
小题2:How did he feel for what he had done??
小题3: Did he think he was wrong??

信息归纳 (本部分共5小题,每小题1分,共5分)
Scientists who study the climate (气候) are still arguing about how fast the earth is warming and how much it will warm, but they do agree that the earth is warming and that it will keep warming if we don’t do anything about it.
Scientists agree that the burning of fossil fuels (化石燃料) like oil and coal cause greenhouse gases to escape (释放) into the air and that these gases are causing most of the warming. Another cause is deforestation ( cutting down trees ) . Trees soak up carbon dioxide  (二氧化碳) , one of the greenhouse gases, from the air.
There are already some changes happening because of global warming. Sea level is rising and some animals are already moving to new homes. It’s already too late to stop global warming completely.
If the warming gets worse, as scientists expect, there may be some kinds of plants and animals that become extinct (灭绝的) because they can’t move to new homes. There may be more storms and floods. Sea level may rise so much that people have to move away from the coasts. Some areas may become too dry for farming.
Global warming is a very difficult problem to fix. People are having a hard time agreeing on what to do about it. For example, everyone agrees that wasting energy is a bad thing to do. But some people think that the federal government (联邦政府) should make laws about it, while other people think it should be up to each person or business to decide what to do.
Many states and businesses in the United States are not waiting until the federal government decides what to do. They have already started working on the problem.
