How to go green

Our environment is changing for the worse. In order to reduce air pollution and water pollution andsave money £¬it¡¯s time for us to go green. As students, we can take some simple steps .

We can save water by taking shorter shower and turning off the tap when we brush our teeth .We can save power by turning off the lights when we leave a room. When we go shopping , we should take ourown bags .When we write , we can use both sides of paper .Whenever we see the rubbish on the ground, we should pick it up and throw it into dustbins. It¡¯s important for us to do more exercise and watch less TV. It¡¯s good to plant some flowers at home

It¡¯s our duty to protect the environment. Follow these small steps, and we can make a big difference to the earth.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Holding doors open, picking up rubbish, thanking people ¡ these acts of kindness seem very small. But students at Tibbetts Middle School know that it¡¯s the small acts that make the world a better place.

Eighth-graders from New Mexico, US, took part in the Random (ËæÒâ) Acts of Kindness Week from Feb 10 to 14. During the week, they tried their best to do kind things for others, or for the environment.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a food additive (ʳƷÌí¼Ó¼Á), which has been widely used by many food factories all over the world since it appeared first in Japan in 1909.

MSG is a substance that is added to some food to improve its original (ÔÏȵÄ) taste and colour. It is used in foods around the world such as cakes, bread, frozen meats, fish and vegetables. In the beginning, people thought MSG was safe just like salt and sugar. However, in 1968 some people reported they seemed to have bad reactions (·´Ó¦) to MSG after having had a meal at a restaurant. They included headaches and quick heartbeat (ÐÄÌø). It was also reported that MSG excited a person's brain and caused his death in Japan. Scientists think that MSG may lead to many neurological disorders (Éñ¾ÎÉÂÒ). In mice studies done by a university, the evidence showed the mice didn¡¯t want to eat the food including MSG.

Today many food companies ¡°hide¡± MSG on food labels (±êÇ©) by using different names. If you see ¡°natural flavorings¡±, ¡°hydrolyzed protein¡± and ¡°spices¡± in a food label, you are probably seeing a hidden way to ¡°report¡± MSG in a food label. Every time we have a meal in a restaurant, we always feel the food very delicious to taste, but sometimes it is dangerous for our health because some poisonous food additives have been added to the food.

To protect people¡¯s health, our governments, from central to local, are taking actions to stop factories producing poisonous food additives.
