BEING an astronaut sounds cool, doesn't it? In space, they get to do some pretty amazing things, like floating in zero gravity(重力).
However, there are also plenty of things that astronauts can't do because of their weightless environment, and that's very sad. What's worse, they can't even let their sadness show, because it's impossible to cry in zero gravity.
Of course, astronauts can still produce tears. But crying is much more difficult in space, according to The Atlantic(大西洋月刊) in January. Without gravity, tears don't flow(流动) down out of the eyes like they do here on Earth. This means that when you cry in space, your tears have nowhere to go-they just stick(粘) to your eyes.
In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this during one of his spacewalks. "Tears," he said, "don't fall off of your eyes...They just kind of stay there."
Besides making your vision(视线)unclear, this can also cause physical pain. Back on Earth, tears are supposed to bring comfort to the eyes. But that's not the case in space. The space environment dries out astronauts' eyes, and when tears suddenly wet the eyes, it can cause pain rather than comfort. "My right eye is stinging(刺痛) like crazy," Feustel told his teammate during the walk.
Since gravity doesn't work in space, astronauts need some extra help to get rid of(除去) the tears. Feustel chose to rub his eyes against his helmet to wipe(擦) the tears away. Another choice is to just wait-"When the tears get big enough they simply break free of the eyes and float around," astronaut Ron Parise told The Atlantic.
There are lots of small things-things like crying-that we are so used to on Earth. We usually take them for granted until they become a problem in a totally different environment, like space.  There, astronauts can't talk to each other directly. They also can't eat or drink in normal ways. They can't even burp (打嗝), because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomach. If they do burp, they just end up throwing up(呕吐)everything in their stomach, according to the UK National Space Center.
Therefore, perhaps it's only space explorers who can honestly say: "Gravity, you're the best."

试题分析:这篇文章讲述了在太空失重的情况下,很多在地球上很平常的事情,像流眼泪,吃饭,在太空中是很难做的。
小题1:细节题。根据文章第二段,第三段Without gravity, tears don't flow(流动) down out of the eyes like they do here on Earth.可知,在太空中没有重力,眼泪是不能从眼睛中流下来。故选D
小题2:细节题。根据文章Besides making your vision(视线)unclear, this can also cause physical pain.可知,在太空中,眼泪不仅使视线模糊,也可以引起身体的疼痛。故选A
小题3:推断题。根据文章We usually take them for granted until they become a problem in a totally different environment, like space.可知,人们通常把眼泪视为理所当然的,知道它在完全的不用的环境中成为了一种问题,比如在太空中。所以,take them for granted的意思是没有注意到它的存在。故选D
小题4:细节题。这篇文章第二段到最后一段讲述了在地球上很平常的一些事情,在太空中却很难做的。故选B

Thousands of years ago, people didn’t know that the Earth moved. They thought the sun really did move across the sky. The Greek god Helios was said to drive the sun around the sky with his chariot(战车). But now, these ideas have all changed. Nowadays, it is the sun that drives our “chariot” around the sky.
So what does all this mean? Well, quite simply, there is now a plane (or “chariot”) that is powered by the sun. It has special parts in its wings. These parts absorb power from the sun. They absorb so much power that they can carry on flying at night. In the Greek myths(希腊神话), Helios had to take a break at night. It seems we’re finally even more efficient than the gods themselves.
This plane is called Solar Impulse (“太阳驱动”号). It will fly across the US in May. This is very important for the future of the world.
So why is solar energy so good for us? Well, other kinds of energy cause a few problems. If you live in China, you’ve probably noticed the pollution. This is caused by burning coal or gas to make energy. The heat and chemicals(化学制品)from this make things work. But if we use the heat from the sun, we don’t have to burn anything, and there’s no pollution.
Solar energy is not all there yet. It needs to be improved. But the best thing about it is that, unlike coal and gas, it doesn’t run out. Solar Impulse could keep flying forever. Well, actually, the sun will run out too, one day, but not for another 5 billion years. That’s a pretty long flight.
小题1:What does “chariot” really refer to in the last sentence of Paragraph 1?
A.The Earth.B.The Greek god. C.Solar Impulse.D.Birds.
小题2:Which of the following is TRUE of Solar Impulse?
A.It can only fly at night.B.It has already flown across the US.

A.Overpopulation.B.Burning coal or gas.
C.Using solar energy.D.Heavy traffic.
小题4:What does the writer mean by “That’s a pretty long flight”?
A.It takes a lot of time to get Solar Impulse going.
B.Solar Impulse moves very slowly.
C.Solar Impulse will be in use for a long time.
D.Solar Impulse has a long way to go to take the place of the sun.
小题5:The passage is most probably taken from___________.
A.a Greek mythB.a science fictionC.a story-bookD.a science magazine

Stay as safe as possible during an earthquake. Be aware that some earthquakes are actually foreshocks(前震) and a larger earthquake might occur. Reduce your movements to a few steps to a nearby safe place.
If you are indoors, do “duck, cover and hold”. Duck or drop down to the floor, under something strong, such as a table or a desk, cover your head and face with your arms and hands and hold on to that table or desk so that it does not move away from you as the ground shakes. Do this until the shaking stops and it is safe to move. Stay inside to avoid being injured by falling glass or building parts. If there isn’t a table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch(蜷缩) in an inside corner of the building.
Stay clear of windows, fireplaces, and heavy furniture that may fall over. Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to a different location inside the building or try to leave.
If you are outside, get into the open and stay there. Move away from trees, buildings, signs and power lines. Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops. The greatest danger exists directly outside buildings, at exits and alongside exterior walls. Ground movement during an earthquake is seldom the direct cause of death or injury. Most earthquake-related casualties(伤亡) result from collapsing walls, flying glass, and falling objects.
If you are driving, you may not realize what is going on at first because the car may feel like it is going to blow up. Stop the car in as clear and open an area as possible and stay in it until the shaking stops. If it is a really bad quake, turn on the radio to find an emergency channel to get information. Follow the directions of people directing traffic.
If you are in a mountainous area, watch out for falling rock and other debris that could be loosened by the earthquake.
If you are at the beach, move quickly to higher ground or several hundred yards inland.
小题1:Which of the following pictures means “duck, cover and hold”?

小题2:Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the text?
A.Ground movement during an earthquake is the main reason of death.
B.You should keep your windows, fireplaces and heavy furniture clear.
C.Stop your car in the clear area and get out of it if an earthquake happens.
D.Run away from the beach as quickly as possible if an earthquake happens.
小题3:The passage is mainly about ___________during the earthquake.
A.ways of keeping you safe
B.the importance of keeping safe
C.ways of finding safe places
D.researches on how to keep safe
