    For ten weeks, in a great house on the island of St Thomas , John C. Lilly tried to teach a six-year-old dolphin to speak English. Margaret Howe, an experiment (试验) helper, would live day and night with Peter, a dolphin. And they would eat, bathe(洗澡), sleep and play together from Sunday to Friday, with only Saturdays off for Margaret. She lived her 1ife in swimming clothes -- with a coat on colder evenings --- and cut her hair short so that she could get on with Peter more easily.

    After a few days, Peter was becoming more and more interested in winning her attentions. He threw a ball against her shower towel to get her to play. As time went by, he only wanted to play ball with her and not on his own.

    The problem was that, just at the time Peter and Margaret began to get on well just as two best friends, the experiment ended and the lab was closed. After a few weeks, Margaret received the sad news that Peter had killed himse1f by refusing to breathe, and sinking to the bottom of his pool.

    One of the world’s most famous markets is in Mexico City—the Sonora Market．You can buy toys，birds，herbs and medicine．There are all kinds of things．It’s open every day from early in the morning till late at night．

     

    In England，every weekend，thousands of young people from all over London travel to the Camden Market—it’s the place to go for street fashion，CDs and tapes．Many people also go there for fun．

    Tommy White has been rowing across the Pacific Ocean in a rowboat since he left California on July 10 ,2007. He has been heading for Australia with only birds, fish, and sharks ever since.

    Crossing the Pacific is only part of his journey. Tommy has decided to go all the way around the world using his own energy. He wants to show kids that there might be hard parts along the way, and sometimes they might not even get to that final goal. But they can have great adventures and learn a lot along the way.

    Tommy has already faced some difficulties. For example, wind and waves keep pushing him westward when he wants to go south toward the Solomon Islands. If his luck doesn’t change, he will cheerfully change his plan, and aim to land at Papua New Guinea. One way or another, he's sure he’ll get to his next goal： Australia.

    When his trip around the world takes him across land, he enjoys meeting people — especially children. He has already visited many schools and shared his story.

    Tommy encourages all kids to set their eyes on a goal and not to give up. He says, "With goals, we will make progress, and we will be farther along than when we started, even if we don't get to some goals. That's called life! ”
