"It's really(87)strange---we're in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the world, but in these hutongs it feels as if we are in a village in the countryside. There are lots of trees everywhere, and all the buildings are only one or two storeys high.In (88)addition,there aren't many cars in the hutongs,so they are quite quiet---very different from the streets in the centre of Hong Kong! It's nice to walk around here and stop or have a drink in one of the little coffee shops or bars by the lakes." |
(Ted,Canada) |
"When you visit the modern part of Beijing---with the wide roads, tall buildings and colorful lights---you can (89)imagine that you are almost anywhere in the world. It's the old hutongs, temples and palaces that are really interesting and beautiful. It's a (90)shame that so little of the old city has been kept.I've taken lots of photos while I've been here. The next time I come back here,I don't know how much of‘old Beijing'will be left." |
(Yu,Guangzhou) |
"I don't see what's so interesting about these hutongs. The streets are too narrow---I could (91)hardly drive my car down them. And most of the houses are old and dirty.China should have a better (92)capital city that we can all proud of.Let's get rid of these hutongs and change them into modern offices and flats. |
