Chinese team first landed on the Antarctic icecap peak(南极冰盖最高点).
A 12-man Chinese team landed on January 18. They are the first people to reach the peak of Dome A(海穹A). It is 4039 meters above sea level(海拔).
The team built a station there to study the changes of the weather, to get ice samples(标本) from 150 meters to 200 meters below, and to do other studies. So far, the team has got nearly 100-meter-long ice samples from a place about 300 meters under the icecap peak.
It is the first time that people have been able to get samples from the icecap peak in Antarctic and it is very important for people to study the weather changes and environmental changes in this area(地区).
The Chinese scientists also built a weather study system(系统) at the peak. The system can send out information about temperature, how strong the wind is, and many other things about the weather.
The Antarctic icecap makes up (组成) 70% of the earth’s fresh water(淡水). By studying Dome A, scientists can get the lowest temperature of the earth and other information about the world’s weather changes. We can’t get this information from other places on the earth because Dome A is the best place for this kind of studies. So it is very important to land on the peak of Dome A.

Body language is the quiet, secret and most powerful language of all! It is said that our body movements communicate(表达) about 50%of what we really mean while words themselves only do 7%. So while your mouth is closed, just what is your body saying…
Arms. How you hold your arms shows how open and receptive(接受的) you are to people you meet. If you keep your arms to the sides of your body or behind your back, this suggests you are not afraid of asking on whatever comes your way. Outgoing people usually use their arms with big movements while quieter people keep them close to their bodies. If someone makes you angry, just cross your arms to show you’re unhappy!
Head. When you want to show your confidence, keep your head level(平直). If you are the monitor in class, you can also take on this position(姿势) when you want your words to be taken seriously. However, to be friendly in listening or speaking, you must move your head a little to one side.
Legs. Your legs will move around a lot more than normal when you are nervous or telling lies. If you are at interviews, try to keep them still.
Mouth. When you are thinking, you often purse your lips(撅起嘴). You might also use this position to hold back angry words you don’t wish to say. However, it will probably still be noticed, and people will know you’re not pleased.
1. Does body language play an important part in communication according to the passage?
2. When a nervous person speaks in public, what will he or she probably do?
3. Which word means “being sure of oneself”, confident or nervous?
4. How many parts of body are mentioned in the passage?
5. 将划线部分句子翻译成汉语。

We are always using body language in our daily communication. When we talk with each other, we may use body language. For example, in the USA, people point to their heads when they think someone is clever. However, human beings (人类) are not the only ones who use body language. Animals also use body language and facial expressions (面部表情) to tell each other how they feel and what they think.
When a dog is happy, its ears will stand up and its ears will wide open. When it is angry, it will look straight at you. If an elephant spreads its ears, it means “ Watch out!” To show friendship, elephants will touch each other with their trunks(鼻子). Dolphins(海豚) live in groups and like to show each other their feelings. An angry dolphin will sometimes slap(拍) its tail(尾巴) on the water. A happy dolphin will play with its friends, making small jumps into the air. Not only humans but also animals can use body language to communicate, but the things they “say” to each other are different.
根据短文内容判断句子正误,正确的写A,错误的写B。(5分)
( ) 1. Only human beings use body language.
( ) 2. A happy dog will look straight at you.
( ) 3. Elephants use their trunks to touch each other to show their friendship.
( ) 4. When a dolphin is angry, it often makes small jumps into the air.
( ) 5. The passage is about body language.
