    As you’re using e-mails, remember that sending and getting letters can sometimes bring about serious trouble.
    When Jim left the snow-covered streets of London for a holiday in New York, his wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day. When he reached his hotel in New York, he decided to send his wife a quick e-mail. But he couldn’t find the piece of paper on which he had written her e-mail address. He tried his best to remember where he had put it, but failed. Unluckily, he made a mistake and sent it to an old woman. Her husband had died a few years ago. When she saw the e-mail, she gave a terrible shout and fell on the floor. Her family rushed into the room and saw the message on the computer.

    A film star’s day

    阅读下面短文，按要求完成相关任务。
    Ma Hua graduated from Fudan University. He had a good career in IT and a great life in Shanghai, but he felt there was something missing from his life. He wanted to help others to improve their lives, so in March 2003 he gave up his job. Then he moved to south-west China to do voluntary work in a village primary school.
    He soon became an important member of the local people. In his class, he painted pictures on the walls to help students remember English words. He also spent his money building a playground for the children.
    Ma Hua quickly got used to his new life. He got great satisfaction from his work and felt very happy, even though life there was hard---he had to melt(融化) ice for water and grow vegetables for food. When he was free, he wrote poems describing the peace and beauty around him. Sometimes he would go walking in the mountains and enjoy the beautiful view.
    Sadly Ma Hua was killed in a car accident in July 2004 at the age of 31. His death was a great loss to all those who knew him, but it is a comfort to know that he lived happily, doing what he loved and enriching the lives of others.

    China has the world’s largest population and there are also a lot of poor people. So the government uses a different way from the UN to tell how many of her people live in poverty(贫困).     It's March, 2050.

    Frank and Mary Smith wake up in their comfortable house in the morning and switch on the bedroom computer to get the latest news. They used to read the Times, but changed to electronic newspapers many years ago.
    There is the usual news about space: another space flight has returned from Mars and scientists have discovered a new planet. Then they turn to business news: the US dollar has risen greatly in Shanghai, one of the world's leading business centres. Mary tells the computer to buy 5,000 dollars, and there is a quick response that it has been done.
    As they watch the screen, Mary orders one of the household robots to make coffee for them.

    Frank disappears into the study to join a video conference with his partners around the world. He is a computer engineer, working for several companies. This is his third job: he used to be in marketing and then television.
    Mary has a quick look at the shopping channels - the usual selection of electric cars, household robots and cheap travel offers - before picking up the video phone to talk to her assistant. She also has a job and she is doing medical research. Both she and Frank used to have an office desk in London, but in 2014 they decided to move to the seaside and work from home.
    Frank and Mary have one daughter, Louise, who also has her own workstation at home. She goes to school only one day a week, mainly to play with other students. Classrooms disappeared in 2030 because there was no longer any need for them: communications systems have made it much easier to learn at home.
    Louise, now thirteen, is studying Chinese at present, which has become a world language as important as English. Louise has many Chinese friends. They communicate by computer.
    According to the family doctor, Louise will live to at least 130. Her wish is to work for a few decades (十年) and then spend her time on music and painting.
