If we want to deal with the association(社交) between boys and girls properly, here are some “dos and don’ts” for you to follow.

Keep a normal and healthy state of mind. Our schools and classes are made up of boys and girls. It is very nature for the boys and girls to make friends with each other. We should make as many friends as possible. We should keep touch with the other sex(性别) in public instead of in secret.

Don’t be too nervous or too shy. If you are a shy person, you can also find a way out. First of all, you can make friends with the students who have the same interest and hobby as you. As both of you have much in common, you may have much to talk about. If you keep doing like that, little by little, you will gladly find you are also as free to express yourself as others.

Don’t fall into the ditch of early love. The boys and girls at a adolescence (青春期) are rich in feeling. They are easy to regard the friendship as a sign of love and fall in love with each other at an early age. In my opinion, early love is a green apple that can’t be eaten. An apple won’t taste sweet until it is full ripe. Boys and girls at middle school are too young to carry the heavy duty of love. Do keep out of early love.

1.We should keep touch with the other sex in following ways EXCEPT _______.

A. with a good state of mind B. in real friendship

C. in public D. in secret

2.What does the underlined word “ditch” mean?

A. 波浪 B. 泥潭 C. 圈套 D. 迷惑

3.The main idea of the passage is to _______.

C. teach boys how to talk with girls

D. give some advice on how to associate between boys and girls

Life is important. You should always have fun and new experiences, because you never know what day will be your last. You shouldnt hold anger. You never know what could happen next. I learn all this at the age of nine.

It was the summer before fifth grade. My best friend Nessa and I were playing. We got angry with each other and had a fight. My older cousin, Tiffany, broke up our fight. I remember Nessa storming out of my grandmothers house saying, I hope we never speak again !

I replied, good, I dont need you as a friend!

I went into the house and tried to be quiet. Then I heard people shouting outside. My cousin rushed in. she said that Nessa had been hit by a street truck as she crossed the road. The driver didnt see her. I felt sad. I wished it had been me instead. It could have been avoided if we hadnt had that fight!

When the ambulance救护车arrived a few minutes later, they said she was dead. I was a real mess. I had to see a psychologist心理医生for the rest of the summer.

February has long been a month of romance. With the sweet smell of roses in the air, romantic films hit cinemas and love stories fill newspapers and magazines.

On the 14th day, it is a custom for a boy to take his girlfriend out to dinner, buy her flowers and chocolates, write poems, sing to her or even spell out her name with rose petals! This is what you see on Valentine’s Day, a day named after Valentine who was a priest in the third century Rome. When the emperor decided that single men could become better soldiers than those with wives, he didn’t allow marriage.

But Valentine continued to perform marriage ceremonies for young lovers secretly. When his actions were discovered, the emperor sentenced (宣判) him to death. While in prison (监狱), it is said that Valentine fell in love with the daughter of his prison guard. Before his death, he wrote her a letter, which he signed “From your Valentine”, an expression that is still in use today. Valentine died for what he believed in and so he was made a Saint (圣徒), as well as becoming one of history’s most romantic characters.

Nowadays, Valentine’s Day is also popular among Chinese young people. Some students are planning to make Valentine’s cards for parents, teachers and friends. Others want to hold parties at which they will exchange small gifts and eat heart-shaped cakes. The idea is to have fun and encourage people to share in the spirit of St. Valentine.

1.Why did the emperor in Rome not allow marriage in his country?

A、Because there were few women in his country at that time.

B、Because he thought men without wives could be better soldiers.

C、Because there wasn’t enough food for so many people.

D、Because he wanted to control the birth rate.

2.Valentine was put into prison because ______.

A、he killed one of the soldiers

B、he stole a lot of food

C、he didn’t obey the emperor’s order

D、he didn’t want to be a soldier

3.The last paragraph mainly tells us ______.

A、students in China send cards to their teachers

B、it is a good idea to celebrate (庆祝)Valentine’s Day in China

C、it is interesting to celebrate Valentine’s Day in China

D、Valentine’s Day is also popular in China now

4. The best title for this passage should be_________.

A、Valentine’s Day
