A.needn’t; not toB.don’t have to; not

C.mustn’t; notD.can’t; not to

needn’t不需要;mustn’t禁止;C.can’t不能。don’t have to没有必要。must用于一般疑问句译为“必须”时,否定回答用needn’tdon’t have to,排除CD;且根据had better do“最好做某事”可知,变为否定时,在do前加not,即had better not do sth,故选B

【题目】 My interest in cooking started when I was 11, partly thanks to my mother. She didn’t really like cooking and when she did cook, I didn’t like her food. Once I was watching something about cooking on TV and I thought I could do this, so I went to the bookstore and looked for the biggest cookbook I could find.

During a year, I had produced most of its recipes (食谱) and was ready for a bigger challenge (挑战). I wanted to create my own dishes and I started cooking for more people than just my family. To my joy, my parents allowed me to build a test kitchen. I did much cooking to test my dishes in it and my skill improved quickly. Later, my mom and I set up a dinner club that organized monthly events inside my home. Now as a teen chef (主厨), I have also cooked in top-class restaurants around the country. 【题目】 Detective fiction is popular in many countries. There are two kinds: stories in which private detectives solve a crime, usually a murder; and stories in which a police detective solve a crime. Both kinds of detective story are equally popular.

The first private detective---PI for private investigator in the USA---was probably Arson Lupin, a Frenchman. However, stories about this detective are not read nowadays. For most people the first, and perhaps the greatest, private detective, was the Englishman, Sherlock Holmes, a character created by the author Sir Author Conan Doyle. All the Sherlock Holmes stories have been translated into most languages. The best known is the Hound of the Baskervilles.

The first police detective was probably Sergeant Cuff who solves the crime in the Moonstone, one of the first detective novels in English. The author, Wilkie Collins, was a close friend of Charles Dickens, the best English novelists of all the time.

Crime fiction has been as popular in the USA as in the UK, and some of the most famous American writers have written detective fiction. The most highly regarded is probably Raymond Chandler whose PI, Phillip Marlowe, is the archetype (典型的) private detective. Also popular, although not so well-written, are the Perry Mason novels by Erle Stanley Gardner.

After Conan Doyle, the most widely read private detective novelist is the English novelist Agatha Christie. She created two unforgettable characters--- Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. Agatha Christie’s have also been translated into most languages.

Detective fiction is as popular today as it has ever been, probably because many novels have been adapted for television which introduced them to many people who do not usually read new detective crime fiction.

A.They all wrote stories about English detectives.B.They all wrote stories about private detectives.
