【题目】 My grandmother grew up in a world different from me. She experienced many things in her long life.

Though she never told stories, her stories were in the way she ate—she savored(品尝) her food, cherished it. Often she would be the first to sit at the dinner table, and the last to leave. Food had been really scarce(缺乏的) when she grew up.

Her stories were in the way she handed me lucky money. From a young age, my grandmother was brought up to understand the importance of hard work and the necessity of saving. Every Chinese New Year, I would be handed, or sent a small red envelope that contained money, but never more than twenty yuan. When I was young, I didn’t understand why my grandmother gave me such a small amount of money. As I grew older, I realized that she wasn’t teaching me about money, but about tradition and hard work and family. The money was not the main point. I would probably spend it on any toy that I would lose soon after; it was the meaning behind her gift that mattered. It was her saying, “I love you; I am your family and I want you to work hard as your family has before you.”

My grandmother’s stories were lessons. But they were never told in words. From the time that I was very young, up until she could barely remember my name, I remember her calling me “good girl”. Those two little words, in the course of my growing up, were a constant reminder that I was still so young, with still so far to go.

Now my grandmother is gone, but I see her every day. I see her in the women around me and in the mirror. She lives with me, inside me, and in the legacies(遗产) that I will create. And I know she would be proud.

1The writer’s grandmother spent so much time eating at the table because ________.

A.she had no teethB.she was not so hungry at first

C.she was preparing to clean the tableD.she really wanted to enjoy the food

2What did the writer learn from the way her grandmother gave her lucky money?

A.Her grandmother didn’t have much money.

B.Her grandmother preferred boys to girls.

C.It was important for her to work hard.

D.It was impolite to accept others’ money.

3What did the writer realize when hearing her grandmother call her “good girl”?

A.She was really a good girl.

B.She needed to keep improving herself.

C.She should be proud of her manners and behavior.

D.She was always a good girl in her grandmother’s eyes.

4What can we know about the writer’s grandmother after reading the passage?

A.She loved telling stories about the past.

B.She was poor throughout all her life.

C.She set a great example for the writer.

D.She was a mean woman with old-fashioned values.

【题目】 Everyone knows the strange feeling of your fingers wrinkling up (起皱) when they’re wet. Sometimes when in water, it seems as if your hands have aged 30 years in a second. But is this an accident? Or is it something that nature has built into our bodies?

Scientists at the University of Newcastle in the UK recently did a test. They asked people to pick up things (some wet and some dry). And take them from one place to another. Some people did this with dry hands, while others had to leave their hands in water for 30 minutes first so that their skin was wrinkled. The study found the second group with wet hands had an advantage when carrying things that were also wet.

The scientist Tom Smulders said that “this wrinkling of our fingers in wet conditions could have helped with gathering food from wet vegetation or streams. Wrinkling happens when blood vessels contract (血管收缩) and pull the skin back.

A long time ago, humans lived a very difficult life in a brutal world, where the smallest advantage could make a huge difference. Having wrinkled skin might have helped people catch fish. This would help them get through the winter. These humans would then have had an advantage. Their genes would be accepted by natural selection.

1The test in paragraph two shows that _ .

A.people can carry dry things more easily than wet ones

B.people can carry wet things more easily than dry ones

C.people with dry hands carry wet things easily

D.people with wet hands can carry wet things easily

2Tom Smulders believes that the Wrinkling of our fingers _ .

A.is something nature has built into our bodies

B.does great harm to our health

C.has great advantages for people in wet conditions

D.happens when there is something wrong with blood vessels

3From the last paragraph, we learn that _ .

A.having wrinkled skin helped people keep warm in winter

B.humans lived on fish a long time ago

C.humans with wrinkled skin had an advantage over those without wrinkled skin

D.humans with wrinkled skin lived longer than those without wrinkled skin

4The underlined word “brutal” in paragraph 4 means __ in this passage.

A.beautifulB.hardC.peacefulD.harmful

5The article mainly talks about _ _ .

A.the advantages of the wrinkling of our fingers

B.the reasons for wrinkling of our fingers

C.some physical changes of people through history
