    Hi,my name is Polly. I have a pet tortoise. His name is Speedy. I think that this name is funny because Speedy walks very slowly—he is not speedy (快速的) at all!I chose to buy a tortoise after I read a book about tortoises. My grandfather helps me look after Speedy. He loves tortoises and used to have one when he was a young boy.

     Speedy is brown in colour and he has a hard shell (壳) on his back. Speedy’s shell is like his home. When he is frightened,he can put his head inside his shell. It is amazing. Speedy does not like meat so I feed him leaves and vegetables. He eats very slowly. He does everything slowly！

     Speedy is two years old. Tortoises live for a very long time. I saw a tortoise at the zoo that was one hundred and fifty years old!That is very old.

     Speedy likes being in the sun. When it is sunny outside,I play with Speedy in the garden. However,when winter comes,Speedy goes to sleep for the whole of winter.

This is called hibernation (冬眠) .He really hates cold weather.
