        African elephants are the largest animals on land. They are larger than their Asian cousins and can be identified (被识别) by their larger ears that look somewhat like the continent (洲，大陆) of Africa,while Asian elephants have smaller,rounded ears.

    At birth,elephants already weigh some 200 pounds (about 91 kilograms) and stand about 3 feet (about 1 meter) tall. Elephants eat roots,grasvses,fruit,and barks. An adult elephant can eat up to 300 pounds (about 136 kilograms) of food in a day.

    African elephants have large ears to help them keep cool in the hot Africa. They are fond of water and enjoy showering by sucking water into their trunks and spraying (喷，洒) it all over themselves.

    An elephant s  trunk is actually a long nose used for smelling,breathing,drinking,and also for grabbing things. African elephants have two fingerlike features on the end of their trunks that they can use to grab small things.

    African elephants have tusks (长牙) . They use them to dig for food and water and strip barks from trees. Because ivory (乳白色的象牙) is so valuable to some humans,many elephants have been killed for their tusks. African elephants are in great danger.

       Long long ago,in a land far away,there lived a beautiful young girl named i Cinderella. Her mother died and her father married again. Her stepmother had I two ugly daughters,Esmerelda and Griselda. 

        Soon after,her father also died and life immediately changed for the girl.

    “You will be our servant ,” said her stepmother. “You will do everything we say. ” 

        One day,an invitation arrived from the palace. The king was having a ball. He was looking for a wife for the prince. Esmerelda and Griselda made themselves look pretty,and went to the ball. But Cinderella had to stay at home and do all the chores. 

        Then,a fairy godmother appeared and used her magic to change the mice into J two fine footmen,the frog into the driver,and the rats into two beautiful horses to pull the coach (马车)     She also made Cinderella wear a beautiful ball gown,with glass slippers on her feet. But the magic stopped working at midnight,Everything would change back then.

       Cinderella arrived at the palace and walked into the ballroom. Everyone stopped and looked at her in surprise. What a beautiful girl!

        The prince saw her,and had eyes for no one else for the rest of the evening.  Cinderella danced only with the prince,and as the evening passed,he fell in love with her.
