    17．In China，each year is named with one animal．For example，the year of 2016is the year of monkey．This is an old story about the start of the Animal Years．It is said that the Yellow Emperor （黄帝），the well-known ancestor （祖先） of the Chinese people，decided to hold a competition to choose twelve animals to be his bodyguards （卫兵）．Soon most of animals got the news．Mouse was supposed to tell Cat，but it forgot．As a  result，Cat was unable to win．Cat and Mouse have been enemies ever since．Elephant，although the largest of the animals，also lost this opportunity （机会） to the competition when Mouse troubled him by running up his long nose．In the end，the twelve winners became the twelve animals of the Chinese"shengxiao"．Of course，this story is just made-up．Later，the Chinese"shengxiao"became a way to keep record when people were born．
    How was the order of the Animal Years decided？According to the story，Ox（牛），as the largest of the twelve animals，should have been in the first place．However，Mouse，the cleverest of the animals，cut to the front of the line by jumping onto Ox's back．
    The order of the twelve Animal Years of the Chinese is as follows：Mouse，Ox，Tiger，Rabbit，Dragon，Snake，Horse，Sheep，Monkey，Rooster，Dog and Pig．
