【题目】 If you are really interested in music festivals, then you have probably heard of the Bestival Music Festival. It takes place every September on the Isle of Wight, the UK. As it is at the end of summer, people think it's their last chance to go to a festival and have fun before going back to boring work.
The dream begins as soon as you start traveling to the island. In order to get to the campsite(营地) of the Bestival, you have to take the ferry(渡船). The ferry is full of happy festival lovers who are ready to take part in the fantastic music party. After you arrive at the campsite, you can put your tent up. There people talk with each other openly. They are not that cold like those you meet in your everyday life.
The festival lasts for four days. During that time you forget all your worries and problems, just like living in a dream. And it is really hard for you to come back to “reality” after that.
It seems that it is this kind of music event that makes people gather together. It gives people a real sense of unity, I took part in the Bestival with my friends the year before last.

【题目】 Conor Grennan was unwilling to be a volunteer. The 29-year-old American was not sure if he had the skills or a strong feeling for it.
However, he went to work at a children’s home in Nepal. His first thought was to make people remember him. “I thought that if I volunteered just once, I could retell the story over and over so that everyone could remember me,” Grennan said in a Huffington Post article.
However, his three-month staying at the children’s home turned into an unusual experience. It was 2004 and Grennan had given up his job to begin a year-long around-the-world trip, His first three months were spent in Nepal.
When he arrived in the village, he knew nothing about the children or the local culture. When he opened the gate of the Little Princes Children’s Home, he was warmly welcomed by the children.
The young American ended up caring for 18 children. He later discovered that they were trafficked(被拐卖的)children. So he walked through the mountains with great difficulty to find the kids’ families. “I started walking with photos of the kids.” he told the Reuters reporter. “I would show up in villages and show photographs around. I went with 24 photos, and I found 24 families.”
At the same time, he put his heart into Nepalese culture.
Grennan said, “Volunteering is the single best way to see how the rest of the world lives.”

【题目】 World Book Day has arrived! It is celebrated on April 23 in most countries, but in the UK, it is usually in March. This year, our school invited a writer to talk to us about her life as an author.
The author’s name is Jo Cotterill. She is an English author who lives in Oxfordshire with her husband and daughters. She has won many awards for writing books for children and teenagers.
In her speech, Cotterill told us a lot about her childhood, as well as her love for unicorns (独角兽), her previous job as an actress and, of course, her books. She also showed us some of her award-winning books and described their plots (情节) for us. I was fascinated by her book A Library of Lemons. It is a story about a girl, Calypso, whose father stops believing in friendship and love after his wife dies. All he believes in are books – he teaches his daughter to close her heart and only love books as well.
As you can see from the book’s title, Cotterill likes to play with words and invent new titles for her books. In fact, her writing career started with inventive (别出心裁的) titles. She said that sometimes she would read in bed on a Sunday and think about interesting titles for new books. She has another book called A Storm of Strawberries. Do you think this title is creative? I simply loved Cotterill’s talk. It inspired me to take up my pen again and keep writing.

【题目】 In Singapore, primary and high school students take outdoor-skills courses as part of their studies. They are usually three to five days long and include rope and rock climbing, going to sea in a small boat, sleeping in a tent at night, taking long walks in the forest, and learning to make a fire. It's real life. One careless mistake could make someone get really hurt. Are those outdoor skills really important?
Minister of Education Ng Chee Meng says that the outdoor courses help students develop skills like critical thinking (批判性思维), teamwork, and good communication — abilities that are necessary for work and life. He believes that these skills are as important as traditional subjects. Students need to learn from books, but for some lessons, reading isn't as useful as doing.
What do the students think? Angelique, a student from Singapore, went for a boat trip in the sea.“It helped me to grow stronger,” she says. She felt nervous because it was stormy that day. There were moments when she felt afraid and hopeless. But she remembered that“smooth seas never made a skilled sailor (水手)” and felt brave enough to continue against the storm.“I am thankful for this amazing chance,” she says.
Right now, students attend the courses with groups from their own school. After 2020, however, all students will do the course in groups from several different schools. One student said it this way, “Nothing's impossible.”And that's a great lesson to learn.
