3.There was once a small boy who would never get dressed when his parents told him to,(16)nor/neither would he wear what they wanted him to.He preferred unusual clothes,but above all,he liked taking his time.His parents were always in a rush,and wanted him to be much (17)quicker (quick),but the boy didn't like this,(18)and he would slow down even more.
One day,his parents got so angry when he refused to dress,that they told him to go out without any clothes at all.(19)Amusingly (amuse),the boy followed his parents out of the door.He held a belief (20)that nobody could do anything to him.
As the boy stood outside his house with nothing on,waiting for his parents'car,along came the local pig farmer.The farmer,(21)who was almost deaf,had very poor eyesight.Not only that,but also he(22)had forgotten/forgot (forget) his glasses that day.When he saw the boy's pink skin,he thought it was one of his pigs.Shouting and pushing,the farmer forced (23)him into a pig cage.
The boy begged him to stop but the deaf farmer couldn't hear.
When found by his parents,the terrified boy never again wanted to be mistaken(24)for anything other than a human being.Now he's the first (25)to get (get) dressed, and always looks neat.

His parents were always in a rush,可知他的父母要求他动作"更快一些",故用比较级形式.

Later,as a university student,I managed on an extremely small student allowance.Students were ignored by banks then,because we were so poor,and there was no way I could have gotten credit,even if I had tried.We collected our allowance three times each year,deposited it to the best advantage and withdrew it little by little to last until the next payout of the allowance.
When our daughter,Sophie,began to walk,we made a purposeful choice to encourage her to use money wisely.We often comment when the TV tells us"You owe it to yourself to borrow our money"-to whom do we really owe it?And what would happen if our income were reduced or dried up?Now,as a 12-year-old child,it's almost embarrassing to see her tight"financial policy",and wait for the unavoidable holiday sales to buy what she wants.
I agree that financial education in schools is very important.But the root of the problem lies with us and the way we behave as role models to those who follow.

27.What reflects Sophie's tight"financial policy"?B
A.Reducing her savings.B.Buying things on sales.

10.The Board Meeting had come to an end.Bob started to stand up and knocked into the table,spilling his coffee over his notes."How embarrassing!I am getting so clumsy in my old age."
Everyone had a good laugh,and soon we were all telling stories of our most embarrassing moments.It came around to Frank who sat quietly listening to the others.Someone said,"Come on,Frank.Tell us your most embarrassing moment."
Frank laughed and began to tell us of his childhood."I grew up in San Pedro.My Dad was a fisherman,and he loved the sea.He had his own boat,but it was hard making a living on the sea.He worked hard and would stay out until he caught enough to feed the family.Not just enough for our family,but also for his Mom and Dad and the other kids that were still at home."
He looked at us and said,"I wish you could have met my Dad.He was a big man,and he was strong from pulling the nets and fighting the seas for his catch.When you got close to him,he smelled like the ocean.He would wear his old canvas,foul-weather coat and his bibbed overalls.His rain hat would be pulled down over his brow.No matter how much my mother washed them,they would still smell of the sea and of fish."

He paused and then went on,"I remember the day I decided I was too old for a goodbye kiss.When we got to the school and came to a stop,he had his usual big smile.He started to lean toward me,but I put my hand up and said,"No,Dad."It was the first time I had ever talked to him that way,and he had this surprised look on his face.I said,"Dad,I'm too old for a goodbye kiss.I'm too old for any kind of kiss."My Dad looked at me for the longest time,and his eyes started to tear up.Then he turned and looked out the windshield."You're right,"he said."You are a big boy…a man.I won't kiss you anymore."
Frank got a funny look on his face,and the tears began to well up in his eyes,as he spoke."It wasn't long after that when my Dad went to sea and never came back.It was a day when most of the fleet (船队) stayed in,but not Dad.He had a big family to feed.They found his boat adrift with its nets half in and half out.He must have gotten into a strong wind and was trying to save the nets and the floats."

17.For over 30years,Rainbow Montessori in Addison has given children a place to grow and explore the world around them,and they're still going strong today.With 20years in the same location,the school is"not going anywhere,"says Dave Rodenborn,a son of the school's founders.As general director,Dave has overseen many improvements,including a new playground for the preschool and a complete modernization.
The school serves families of children from 6weeks to 6th grade.This allows them to have programs in baby care,preschool,kindergarten,and elementary(小学).The curriculum has developed over the decades,most notably in the Elementary.At first somewhat jokingly referred to as"Monte-sorta,"due to its relaxed application of the Montessori Method,the school's elementary now stresses a more traditional Montess environment.Montessori associates abstract concepts with concrete sensorial(感觉的) experiences,ensuring that children are involved in learning,not just memorization.Classrooms still have a creative,casual feel,with children having freedom of choice,but in keeping with Montessori principles,they work within a framework.This helps them learn about freedom within limits,maximizing their potential.
The truly international Rainbow Montessori staff comes from a wide range of backgrounds,all Montessori-trained."They are an energetic,devoted group,"says Dave."They are loyal,caring and like what they do a lot.I'd say a good 30to 40percent of them have been here for almost a decade or more."
Dave says that his favorite part of being at Rainbow Montessori is"making things grow".By that,he doesn't mean it in the sense of the organic,but by"coming up with good solutions to problems as they occur."This is reflective of Montessori beliefs,in which each child learns to use the right tools and discover solutions for themselves.Dave credits a strong staff and great parents with lots of patience for helping to make Rainbow Montessori an ideal place for children to learn and grow.

8.We all hope to enjoy harmonious relationships with our parents. In real life, however, this is not always possible. The poem Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden expresses the speaker's regret over the way the speaker, when he was young,(33)treated(treat) his father. It is only when he looks back on how he has grown up (34)thathe begins to understand his father's unselfish love.
In remembering the small things his father did (35)forhim and his family, such as lighting a fire in the morning and polishing his shoes, the speaker begins to understand an aspect of parental love that escaped (36)hisnotice in the past.
As he recalls how his father warmed the house, the speaker's coldness toward his father starts to melt away.In its place is love and gratitude. It dawns on him that love is not just hugging and kissing,or always warm and affectionate, but (37)maywell be cold and stern in appearance. In fact, mature love often requires self-discipline and self-sacrifice.
During our stressful teen years,we may find that our parents, especially our fathers, have difficulty(38)showing(show) their love for us verbally-sometimes when we need it most. This is certainly very discouraging. However,if we remember (39)to be(be) grateful or not so self-centered,we will see that their love has always been there, only (40)expressed(express) in ways different from what we may have expected.

15.A.What are some things a person can do to get better sleep?
B.Why do some people have a difficult time getting good sleep?
C.What advice would you like to leave for someone who wants to sleep better?
D.What type of impact can a lack of sleep have on a person's life?
E.When do you advise parents to start sleep training-is there an ideal age?
FWhat type of professional help is available for someone who had a difficult time sleeping?
61.B
Julie's answer; There are many reasons. There could be medical issues and psychological ones.Lately, people are not putting sleep as a priority as the amount of roles people are taking on; it reduces the amount of time people have to dedicate to sleep. Also, many people that I see often express how their mood affects their sleep. It is difficult for anyone to sleep if they have a lot on their mind.Anxious thoughts can run like a record player, which doesn't allow their minds and bodies to relax enough to be able to fall asleep.
62.D
Julie's answerWell,it can affect physiologically and psychologically. Some people become irritable and lethargic. They also feel it throughout their body by rubbing their eyes, difficulty keeping their heads up,laying down, being unmotivated to do things.I find that adults are very much like this as well.Children need more sleep than adults (10-12 hours),but the results are similar to adults if adults do not get their 8 hours that is needed. However, studies do say that adults need more than 8 consistent hours of sleep to not have any of the above effects.
63.A
Julie's answerFirst, people need to prioritize sleep; if one believes that they can just"catch up"or other things matter more, then that person will never be able to improve their sleep.Secondary to create an environment that is relaxing and comfortable. That doesn't include the television or video games. The radio can be good, but it should be more soothing music.Third, you can try relaxation skills to be able to fall asleep. That can include yoga, meditating music, using imagery to fall asleep too. Finally,I often suggest to my clients to write down in a free writing style whatever is on their mind if their anxious thoughts are preventing them from sleeping. That way it is a positive release of those
thoughts Just don't read it again,or you will be putting it right back where it came from.
64.F
Julie's answerOne thing to consider and to rule out first is any medical reason for the lack of sleep.I suggest talking to your Primary Care Provider (PCP) about any physiological issues.I e next step is finding a Mental Health Professional that is a good fit for you. This could be a social worker, psychologist.a hypnotist,or a psychiatrist that could provide you with education and possible medication,if it is needed.
65.C
Julie's answer:I would suggest that you follow a protocol of trying to improve your sleep better by using positive coping skills first and if you need help in order to find those,to seek professional help because feeling rested can make an added difference to your health and mood. There are medications that of course can help you sleep, however I believe they should be used as a last resort & responsibly.
