Beginning college is exciting: new ideas to explore, new challenges to be met and many decisions to be made.Your future begins here.

However, you will find college life is different from your previous school environment. Many of us can be easily overwhelmed(压垮)by the details of running a well-balanced life. While some of us may have the know-how, I guess there are more of us who can benefit from learning about the experiences of others who have walked the college halls before you.

The following you may find of use about life on campus.

●Plan well. There are so many new things to do at a new college or university.Give yourself time to make new friends and become familiar with the campus, but don’t forget why you are there.Give some time for social activities and manage your time wisely.

●If you don’t have a “system” for planning your time now (like a day timer, a computer date book), get one. Most of all, don’t depend on your memory.

●Don’t miss the guidelines. The restrictions, rules and regulations of all kinds can usually be found in your student handbook.Consider them well-balanced food for thought. What dates are important? What pieces of paper need to be handed in? What can/ can’t you do in class? What can/ can’t you do in your student residence(住处)? Who has right for what? What do you need to complete to graduate?

●Write the word “STUDY” on the walls of our bedroom and bathroom, and maybe it will help to write it on a piece of paper and stick it on the telephone, TV and the kitchen table.Consider this—you are paying thousands of dollars for your courses. You pay every time you have to repeat or replace a course.

●Build your identity. This is the time for you to decide what to do and what not to do.Take as much time as you need to explore new ideas.Do not be afraid of the beyond. This is learning to make good choices.

D.Because professors there will provide you with many new ideas.

62.What is the probable meaning of the underlined word “know-how”?

So I put my flashers on, grabbed my books, and marched down the road to the college.”
38  getting there I called AAA and arranged for a tow truck to meet me at my car after class. The secretary asked me what had happened. ‘This is my lucky day,’ I replied, smiling.”
“ ‘Your car breaks down and today is your lucky day?’ She was   39 . ‘What do you mean?’ ’’ “I live 17 miles from here.” I replied. “My car   40  have broken down   41  along the freeway. “The secretary’s eyes opened wide, and then she    44 . I smiled back and headed for class.” So ended my story.
I scanned the sixty faces in my class. Despite the early hour, no one seemed to be   45 . Somehow, my story had touched them.

In bringing up children, every parent watches eagerly the child's acquisition (学会) of each new skill in the first spoken words, the first independent steps, or the beginning of reading and writing. It is often tempting to hurry the child beyond his natural learning rate, but this can set up dangerous feelings of failure and states of worry in the child. This might happen at any stage. A baby might be forced to use a toilet too early, a young child might be encouraged to learn to read before he knows the meaning of the words he reads. On the other hand, though, if a child is left alone too much, or without any learning opportunities, he loses his natural enthusiasm for life and his desire to find out new things for himself.
Parents vary greatly in their degree of strictness towards their children. Some may be especially strict in money matters. Others are severe (严格的) over time of coming home at night or punctuality for meals. In general, the controls represent the needs of the parents and the values of the community as much as the child's own happiness.
As regards the development of moral standards in the growing child, consistency(一致性) is very important in parental teaching. To forbid a thing one day and excuse it the next is no foundation for morality (道德). Also, parents should realize that "example is better than precept". If they are not sincere and do not practice what they preach (说教), their children may grow confused when they grow old enough to think for themselves, and realize they have been to some extent fooled.
A sudden awareness of a marked difference between their parents' principles(原则) and their morals can be a dangerous disappointment.
76. Eagerly watching the child's acquisition of new skills ___________.
A. should be avoided
B. is universal among parents
C. sets up dangerous states of worry in the child
D. will make the child lose interest in learning new things
77. In the process of children's learning new skills, parents ________.
A. should encourage them to read before they know the meaning of the words they read
B. should expect a lot of the children
C. should achieve a balance between pushing them too hard and leaving them on their own.
D. should create as many learning opportunities as possible.
78. The second paragraph mainly tells us that ___________.
A. parents should be strict with their children
B. parental controls reflect only the values of the community
C. parental restrictions vary, and are not always for the benefit of the children alone
D. it's parents' and society's duty to control the children
79. The word "precept" in Paragraph 3 probably means "___________".
A. opinion         B. punishment       C. behavior         D. instruction
80. In terms of moral matters, parents should _________.
A. follow the rules themselves
B. be aware of the huge difference between adults and children
C. forbid their children to do anything
D. always ensure the security of their children

In my profession as an educator and health care provider, I have worked with numerous children infected with the virus that causes AIDS. The relationships that I have had with these special kids have been gifts in my life. They have taught me so many things, but I have especially learned that great courage can be found in the smallest of packages. Let me tell you about Tyler.
Tyler was born infected with HIV: his mother was also infected. From the very beginning of his life, he was dependent on medications to enable him to survive. When he was five, he had a tube surgically inserted in a vein in his chest. This tube was connected to a pump, which he carried in a small backpack on his back. Medications were hooked up to this pump and were continuously supplied through this tube to his bloodstream. At times, he also needed supplemented oxygen to support his breathing.
Tyler wasn’t willing to give up one single moment of his childhood to this deadly disease. It was not unusual to find him playing and racing around his backyard, wearing his medicine - laden backpack and dragging his tank of oxygen behind him in his little wagon. All of us who knew Tyler marveled at his pure joy in being alive and the energy it gave him. Tyler’s mom often teased him by telling him that he moved so fast she needed to dress him in red. That way, when she peered through the window to check on him playing in the yard, she could quickly spot him.
This dreaded disease eventually wore down even the likes of a little dynamo like Tyler. He grew quite ill and, unfortunately, so did his HIV - infected mother. When it became apparent that he wasn’t going to survive, Tyler’s mom talked to him about death. She comforted him by telling Tyler that she was dying too, and that she would be with him soon in heaven.
A few days before his death, Tyler beckoned me over to his hospital bed and whispered, " I might die soon. I’m not scared. When I die, please dress me in red. Mom promised she’s coming to heaven, too. I’ll be playing when she gets there, and I want to make sure she can find me. "
64. What is the boy Tyler's attitude towards death?
A.  optimistic.      B.  pessimistic.   C. sorrowful.              D. fearful.
65. Tyler requested the writer to dress him in red when he died simply because ________.
A. red is a lucky color                 B. red might help to cure him
C. his mom could spot him easily        D. he could find more mates by wearing red
66. Which of the following might serve as a possible title for this passage?
A. My unusual profession.                 B. A caring mother.
C. Mother and son.                         D. Dying in red.
67. The underlined word dynamo in the fourth paragraph here means ________.
A. a promising and helpful youth       B. an extremely energetic person
C. a rare and beautiful flower          D. a magic and understanding superstar
