E
Organiaing Yourself
Many new students find it hard to do all the study that has to be done; they find themselves putting off reading assignment, jumping from subject to another and rarely being quite certain what they are trying to do during a particular study session. The best way to overcome these difficulties and to start studying efficiently is to plan your time and organize your work. Let us suppose that you have 15 hours per week of classes and that you decide to allow yourself a 40-hour working week (a reasonable figure, leaving you 70 waking hours for other activities).
You now have to decide how to divide the remaining 25 hours of private study. Naturally the decisions you make will change from week to week according to what essays have to be written and what reading has to be done. Many people find it helpful to draw up each week a seven-day timetable showing the occasions on which they will be working privately and the particular subjects that will be studying on each occasion. By checking such a plan at times during the week, you can see what you have done and what you have still to do: the whole plan becomes more manageable. There are a number of places where you can study—college library, public library, home, empty classrooms, on bus or train—and each has several obvious advantages and disadvantages. The college library is least busy in the evening, on Wednesday afternoon, and all day Friday and Saturday.
When you are deciding where to study, keep the following suggestions in mind:
1.Try to study always in the same place. After a while the familiar surroundings will help you to switch into the right frame of mind as soon as you sit down.
2.Find somewhere with as few distractions as possible.
3.Make sure that your study place has a good light and is warm (but not hot ) and well aired.
72.What’s the main idea of this passage?
A.Plan your time and organize your work.
B.Overcome your difficulties.
C.Be certain what you can do.
D.Find a quiet place for study.
73.A student’s organization of his work will need to change according to____.
A.how many hours he is awake B.how many subjects are required
C.how many lectures he misses D.what he has to write and read that week
74.A student is advised to make a weekly plan and to check it from time to time in order to  __________.
A.see whether he has calculated it properly
B.see what day of the week is
C.see what work still needs doing
D.see how he feels at the whole week
75.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a place where you can study?
A.The bus      B.The train      C.Home      D.A public house

1.Preparation is a big part of the interview process. You will, or you should, spend more time getting ready for the interview than you will at the interview itself. This preparation includes getting to know more about the company and the position you are applying for, and preparing yourself to explain how your valuable qualities make you the best person for the position. And of course, there is the time it takes to make yourself presentable. Job interview can be a stressful situation for many people. The best way to help relieve this stress is to hold a positive attitude and be well prepared. Consider the following tips as you prepare for your interview.

2.Think of the answers you want to give. Although you will never completely know in advance every question they will ask you, there are questions that get asked in almost every interview. Learn what they are and try to predict what the others might be. Interview questions are usually sourced from the job posting. If they are looking for a particular skill set, make sure you can explain how you will meet that expectation.

3.Do your best to get information about the company before the interview. Do some research, such as using their website, scanning through annual reports if they publish one, being familiar with the project they are now working on. This will help you to present your answers in the context of what their core business is about.

4.Most job postings have a list of core duties or responsibilities as well as what qualifications are required. Study these well and prepare your answers accordingly. Think about what education and training you have had and what work experiences you have done that makes you the ideal person for the position. Be thorough in your self-assessment, think broadly about all you have learned and experienced. You may surprise yourself with what skills you have acquired previously.

5.In most cases, the interviewer will have your resume already, but it never hurts to have some back-up copies just in case. And be sure they are the most current and relevant resume for the position.

I was working with a client who was completely burned out on her career and life and then ready for a career change. As we were talking, she said, “I just wish I had meaningful work. I don’t feel like I am making a difference. I am just wasting my life.” This is the theme I hear most often from clients who have been in the workforce awhile. All of us want to feel like we are making a difference. We want to believe our work means something. The problem comes in defining “meaningful work”. What is it? That answer is different for everyone. For some meaningful work might be helping others organize their office. For others it may mean making a million dollars.

What really matters is how you see it. What is meaningful work to you? Take out a piece of paper and answer these questions. How do you define meaningful work? When do you feel like you are really making a difference? What work have you done so far that feels the most meaningful? Write down whatever comes to mind.

What you want to do is meaningful. It is very easy to start judging yourself as being selfish. Stop! Allow yourself to be honest. The fact is when Picasso painted; he was doing it because he liked to paint. He was not thinking, “Oh, I hope this brings joy to others’ lives.” He painted because he wanted to. When Beethoven composed, he did it because he loved music. Even scientists searching for a cure for cancer are immersed in their work because it fascinates them.

Don’t look down on your work. It is easy to downplay the importance of work that feels meaningful. I remember Tony Robbins told a story of talking with the owner of a major company. The man said to Tony, “I wish I could do what you do because it makes such adifference in people’s lives”. Tony said, “You have got to be kidding! Look at what adifference you make. You provide work, health insurance and security for thousands ofpeople!” Don’t underestimate the value you provide.

Take a look at what you have written about meaningful work. Do you see any themes? How do you wish to contribute to this world? Whatever you choose, remember that the greatest gift you can give is to find work that makes you feel fulfilled and delighted. Respect your preference because giving your gifts to the world, whatever they look like, is the most meaningful action you can ever take.

1.. What does the writer mean by mentioning the famous people?

A.Famous people are selfish to start work for themselves.

B.Doing meaningful work requires our interest in it.

C.Interest is the best teacher in learning.

D.Honesty makes for the greatest people.

2.. When you downplay the value of your work, you tend to think it is ______.

A.quite different

B.very successful

C.not meaningful

D.less important

3..According to the passage, what meaningful job does the writer advise us to take?

A.The one which is popular in society.

B.The one which brings you profits.

C.The one which wins you fame.

D.The one which interests you.

4.. The article is intended to ________.

A.explain what is the most important in changing one’s job

B.advise taking an immediate action to find meaningful work

C.suggest we should show confidence and talent in work

D.tell us the problem that the author’s client met

After we finished thirteen miles of hiking, we were tired and our muscles ached as we made our way back to New England. The car ride to the airport followed by a two-hour flight left our legs more worse condition than they were when we first came off the mountain we just climbed.

When we heard that two seats in first class on our next flight were available for a bit higher price, we jumped at the opportunity. Our spirits lifted immediately. After all, flying first class was a new experience for us, and we would end our adventure in comfort and style.

As we boarded the plane, we noticed that the stewardess(空姐) was working non-stop to ensure the comfort of the first class passengers. She could not walk by a seat without receiving an order. How much she must love her job! She smiled kindly at each one while attending to their needs.

As the stewardess walked by our seats near the end of the flight, I looked at her and said, “Thank you and I hope you have a great night.” She stopped, bent down, looked at me and said, “Excuse me.” I repeated my words and she smiled in a rather funny way, almost as if I had asked her a question that she did not know how to answer.

After a few moments she returned to our seats. “I can tell you work with the public,” she said. “Why do you think so?” I asked. She answered very quietly, “Because you are the only passenger here to say something nice to me tonight and I really appreciate your kindness.”

The sense of belonging to the elite(精英) group of people in first class disappeared as we heard her words. Our first class seats offered us more than a comfortable ride. We were reminded that without kindness, we would be flying in no class.

1.Where did the writer ever go hiking?

A.In a forest

B.In a mountain

C.Along a river

D.Near an airport

2.Why did they choose to take a first class flight?

A.Because they were extremely tired

B.Because they wanted to go back as soon as possible

C.Because the tickets were cheaper

D.Because they wanted to enjoy the first class service.

3.After boarding the plane, the writer felt_______.

A.proud

B.uncomfortable

C.nervous

D.disappointed

4.When the stewardess first heard what the writer said, she_________.

A.didn’t understand the writer

B.knew what work the writer did

C.didn’t believe her ears

D.had a big smile on her face
