    “Wolf！”
    Lydia Angiyou's five-year-old nephew Paulussie whispered with alarm as he touched her
    arm. At first, she didn't believe him.
    Angiyou, Paulussie, her another newphew Lueassie, also five, and her youngest son Jessie,
    seven, were walking to her mother's house one night last February. Animals were often sighted

    Angiyou felt a rush of blood to her brain. "Get as far away as you can!" she shouted to the
    boys as she ran towards the bear. She stopped just in front of it, then faced it quiedy. It made a
    move to go around her to get to the boys, who must have seemed like the easier meal.
    But Angiyou moved with the bear to maintain her position blocking the children. Finally she
    got the animal's attention. In response, it rose on its hind legs to its full 2.5m height. The bear
    charged, and knocked her into a seated position. The skin under her nose tore. Falling onto her
    back, she screamed for help and kicked at the animal in a bicycling motion. She soon passed out.
    Sirqualuk Ainalik, a fellow teacher, had been at his brother's house nearby when Jessie
    dashed inside for help. Grabing a rifle, the 33-year-old ran to the road, firing a warning shot into
    the air. He then aimed his gun at the huge bear.
    With two more shots, Ainalik killed the polar bear.

S. managers believe that people with a sense of humour do better at their jobs, compared with those who have little or no sense of humour. When people feel stuck on important projects, they tend to feel angry or depressed.  According to Dr. Trice's research, taking time out to laugh can help us to get rid of negative feelings and allow us to return to a task or move on to another project unaffected by past defeat.
    If humour is really this important, then why don't we use it more often on the job? Most likely, the main reason is that many people are unaware of the positive effects of humour in the workplace.     Berlin — Germany will allow entry 20,000 foreign high-tech workers, under a plan announced on May 31st. Chancellor(总理) Gerhard Schroreder sees this as a way to keep the country from falling behind in information technology.
    The plan for this so-called ‘green cards’, not like the US work permit system, came in answer to industry demands that there were not enough qualified workers to fill positions.
    Workers who came to Germany under the new rules, effective from August will be given a five-year work permit after proving they have completed studies in a related field or can promise to at least 100,000 marks (US$48 000).
    Family members are also allowed, though they too will receive work permits. “They are strong competition in the rest of the world for these people,” Schroreder said mentioning not only the United States but also British and France.     CHICAGO (Reuters) - Smoking not only can wrinkle(起皱纹) the face and turn it yellow -- it can do the same to the whole body, researchers reported on Monday.
    The study, published in the Archives of Dermatology, shows that smoking affects the skin all over the body -- even skin protected from the sun.
    "We examined non-facial skin that was protected from the sun, and found that the total number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day and the total years a person has smoked were linked with the amount of skin damage a person experienced," Dr. Yolanda Helfrich of the University of Michigan, who led the study, said in a statement.
    "In participants older than 65 years, smokers had significantly more fine wrinkling than nonsmokers. Similar findings were seen in participants aged 45 to 65 years," Helfrich's team added in their report.
    The researchers tested 82 people, smokers and nonsmokers, taking pictures of the inner right arms. They ranged in age from 22 to 91 and half were smokers Independent judges decided how wrinkled each person's skin was.
    When skin is exposed to sunlight, notably the face, it becomes coarse, wrinkled and discolored with a pale yellow tint, Helfrich's team wrote.
    Several previous studies have found that cigarette smoking contributes to premature（过早的）skin aging as measured by facial wrinkles, the study said, but little has been done to measure the aging of skin not exposed to light.
    The report did not discuss the mechanism involved but previous research has found that cigarette smoke, among other things, causes blood vessels（血管）beneath the skin to constrict（紧缩）, reducing blood supply to the skin.
