    They are worried that we rely on our parents too much and tend to live a comfortable life. Besides, they think we are selfish and are unwilling to work with others, which makes it hard for us to achieve success.
    However, we have our own advantages. Firstly, we are independent in thinking and desire to learn more about the world around us. Secondly, we have the courage to meet challenges and take risks in our life, which helps to realize our dreams. What’s more, we are creative and can keep up with modern science and technology.

The “spider story’’ often told, Robert Bruce, leader of the Scots in the 13 th century, was hiding in a cave from the English. He watched a spider spinning a web. Bruce is said to have taken heart and to have gone on to defeat the English. Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, made hundreds of models that failed before he found the right way to make one. Abraham Lincoln, the famous American president, lost elections more times than he won them! He never gave up in the face of failure but kept trying and was eventually elected to Congress and then the presidency.
    So what? First, always think about your failure. What caused it? Were conditions right? Were you in top from yourself? What can you change so things will go right next time?
    Second, is the goal you’re trying to reach the right one? Try to do some thinking about what your real goals may be. Think about this question. “If I do succeed this time, where will it get me?’’ This may help you prevent failure in things you shouldn’t be doing anyway.
    The third thing to bear in mind about failure is that it’s part of life. Learn to “live with yourself” even though you may have failed. Remember, “You can’t win them all.”

    A group of Italian soldiers led by a captain were advancing slowly toward the position of the enemy. They arrived at a farmhouse, in front of which sat a small boy, cutting a branch of a tree with his knife.
    "What are you doing here?" asked the captain. "Why didn't you leave with your family?"
    　　"I don't have any family," said the boy. "I'm an orphan. I used to work for the family that lived here. They've gone, but I stayed in order to see the fighting."
    　　"Have you seen any Austrians pass by here?"
    　　"Not within the last three days."
    　　"Do you think you could climb that tree and tell me whether you see anything of the Austrians in the distance?"

    　　In a few minutes the boy was at the top of the tree.
    　　"Look straight ahead," cried the captain, "and tell me what you see."
    　　"Two men on horseback - nothing else."
    　　"How far away?"
    　　"About a mile and a half. They're standing still." ….
