A young         viewing the paintings ahead of me        nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and decided the lady was doing all the talking. I admired the man's       for putting up with her         stream of words.        by their noise, I moved on.
I met them several times as I moved       the various rooms of art. Each time I heard her continuous flow of words, I moved away      .
I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop making a       when the couple approached the      . Before they left, the man        into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He        it into a long stick and then tapped his way into the        to get his wife's jacket.
"He's a        man." the clerk at the counter said." Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. During his recovery, he made a promise his life wouldn't change. So, as before, he and his wife come in       there is a new art show." "But what does he get out of the art?" I asked." He can't see." "Can't see! You're       . He sees a lot. More than you and I do," the clerk said, " His wife       each painting so he can see it in his head."
I learned something about patience,        and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without ___ and the courage of a husband who would not        blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away, hand in hand.

Richard Wagner was a German musician has been a very controversial(有争议的) person, but he has gained great fame by writing opera, a form of performance combining singing, music on instruments, and drama.
While he wrote excellent music, many people think his operas are too dark and serious, lacking the fun common in operas written before his time.
Wagner, on the other hand, thought the opera of his time was too simple. He wanted to make opera a serious form of art that combined drama and music to tell deep stories that would have a strong effect on the audience.
Some people thought Wagner’s new kind of music was too different from the operas they were used to hearing.Wagner agreed with them.In fact, he didn’t call his works “operas” at all, using instead a German word that means “Musical Festival” or “Musical play”.
While many people today still do not like Wagner’s operas, they cannot deny that Wagner has had a lot of influence on opera as a form of art.Wagner invented the tradition of turning off the lights before starting a play.He also was the first person to make the whole audience sit down for an entire play.Today, almost all operas are performed in this manner.
Wagner as a man was even more controversial than Wagner as a writer of music. He hated Jewish people, and made many people angry, which we would today think of as evil. Some would say he was a good musician, while others would say that he was a bad musician. But it would be difficult to say he was not an important person in music and in the world.

I met Billy the last summer before college. He was handsome and his irreverence(玩世不恭) was    to me. We liked each other the first instant we met.       , I was a straight A student and my parents had high hopes for me to     an Ivy League (常春藤联盟) school. Billy did not concentrate all his attention        his study and school life. However, we were in love --- so        teenager love. I still remember we had a plan for prom(舞会). It was understood that we had       about where we would dance and drink and party together.
This meant one thing to my parents---panic. And it grew as the       letters began to roll in. Of the eleven schools I applied to, nine accepted me. And one of them was Brown University---the Ivy League     in 1770 in historic Providence, Rhode Island.
There was no         that I was drawn to Brown, but Billy (who had joined the army) was      down south and I had offers      for me there, too. I was torn between my love for him and my family      .
One week        the start of school, my mother had a talk with me. She said I was eighteen years old and I had a        to make--- one that went        beyond the choice of       to attend university.
In August, I      and drove north to Providence. It took several months to     that my life was moving on in a way that was completely different from Billy’s. Brown changed my life, opening doors and giving me the       I now use to think, to learn and to write. Life is always about       it seems, and the older I get, the more I understand this. Still, there are times when I think of Billy because he taught me about love.

Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one family between the ticket office and us. This family made a big impression on me.
There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. You could tell they didn’t have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children talked excitedly about the clowns. It was clearly a very important day out for them. The father and mother seemed happy as they could be.
The tickets lady asked how many tickets the father wanted, he proudly answered, “Please let me buy eight children’s tickets and two adults’ tickets, so I can take my family to the circus.”
The ticket lady told him the price.
The man’s wife lowered her head. There was no longer a smile on the man’s face. He quietly asked, “How much did you say?”
The ticket lady again told him the price.
The man obviously didn’t have enough money. But how could he tell his kids the bad news?
Seeing what was happening, my dad took a $20 note from his pocket and dropped in on the ground. (We were not rich ourselves at all!) He then tapped the man on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me, sir, you dropped this.”
The man understood my father was helping him. He picked up the money, looked straight into my dad’s eyes, and in tears replied. “Thank you. This really means a lot to me and my family.”

Four years ago my sweet mom went to be with her Lord. She did it her way.
I got the call at work, and I headed home quickly.Mom and Dad lived on a small farm that they had owned since I was seven.I hated going there every weekend. There was nothing for a young girl to do but watch the one station on the old TV set, if the weather allowed reception.
My mom, on the other hand, loved the peace and quiet of the land and loved to work in the garden among her flowers and vegetables. The place was rustic, with no indoor plumbing or heat.We had a big wood stove in the kitchen that did its best to heat the little farmhouse, but it always seemed cold and too quiet to me.
In the evenings, my mom and I would sit for hours singing in the little kitchen.I sang the melody and Mom harmonized. Her favorite song was "Moon River" and we sang it over and over.Mom told me stories about how when I was a little girl, I could sing before I could talk. She loved to tell how my playpen(婴儿圈栏)sat in the kitchen next to the radio and there was one song I particularly loved called "Ivory Tower".
As time passed, I had my own children and went to visit every week or two.The kids loved the farm and the tractor rides with my dad.Me, well, I still hated the silence of the farm. While my mom loved to sit at her kitchen table and look out at her garden and flowers and retell all the old stories, I missed the hustle and bustle(喧闹)of my life at home. But I sat there listening quietly as she reminisced
Now, I sat back in the silence and the silence was deafening so I finally leaned over to turn on an old radio.Music always comforted me.
My heart skipped a beat."Moon River" was playing on the radio.I sat there stunned, with a tear running down my cheek, as I listened to every familiar note.
Then the radio announcer of this oldie station came on."Here's one we haven't heard in a while," and an unfamiliar song began.I began to cry harder as I heard the words sung over the airwaves."Come down, come down from your Ivory Tower...."
