¡¾´ð°¸¡¿Dear Sir/Madam.

I have read your magazine's article asking what kind of person is suitable to be a role model for young people. In my opinion, the role model for young people should be a person of our own age, who is not only positive and sunny, but also has made outstanding achievements.

In my mind, Wang Yuan, the leader of TFboys is such a person. Since his debut, he has brought us a lot of wonderful songs. His greatest achievement is that as a representative of Chinese youth, he was invited to attend the ECOSOC Youth Forum 2017 held at the UN headquarters in New York and delivered a speech in English. He is not only the first Chinese artist invited to participate in the UN youth forum, but also the first Chinese youth idol on the UN stage.

In view of the reasons above, I think Wang Yuan is a good role model for us.

yours truly,

Lihua

If you study abroad, it¡¯s necessary to mix with the locals. This allows you

¡¾1¡¿(test) your language skills and find out more about the local culture. Having lived abroad for three years, I¡¯m able to put forward a list of tips to help you make friends in a foreign country.

Firstly, say yes to everything within reason. Obviously, if you don¡¯t feel ¡¾2¡¿ ease, you can choose not to do anything. However, don¡¯t put off trying something new. The group of students from your class who invite you out for a coffee might end up ¡¾3¡¿(be) your friends for life!

Secondly, develop a ¡¾4¡¿ (entire) new hobby. Join a dance class, a walking club or learn to cook the local food¡ªthe ¡¾5¡¿(possibility) are endless!

Thirdly, get out of the house! Hours ¡¾6¡¿(spend) on the computer chatting with your family back at home surely make you even homesick. Just get out and explore the exciting place you live in.

Lastly, be ¡¾7¡¿(confidence) when you are surrounded by people speaking ¡¾8¡¿ unfamiliar language. Even if you may find ¡¾9¡¿ difficult to involve yourself in conversations, you should try to make your voice heard. Once you open your mouth and begin to speak, it¡¯s likely ¡¾10¡¿ you will find everyone wants to know more about you.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.

A child at five is friendly, competent and obedient, although he may be naughty with other children and is sometimes sufficiently independent to call his mother names. He is still dependent on adult approval and praise, and so orientated to the grown-up that he tells tales without seeing the other child¡¯s point of view. ¡¾1¡¿ Group play is often disturbed because everyone wants to be the mother of the bride or the captain of the fire brigade. Each child has an urgent need for constant contact with an adult in spite of all his efforts to be independent. In his unsureness he may make statements about his own cleverness and beauty, hoping hat the adult will praise him.

¡¾2¡¿ He can skip on alternate feet and can stand still on one foot for eight or ten seconds, and he can even hop on one foot for two or three yards. When he hears music whose rhythm appeals to him, he may dance in time to the tune. He can grip. strongly with either hand and may ride a tricycle so excitedly that he terrifies onlookers-needlessly, for he is now such an expert that the procedure is far safer than it looks.

He can count the fingers of one hand with the index finger of the other, and may count ten or more separate objects correctly.¡¾3¡¿ And he frequently asks the meaning of words which he hears for the first time. He can name coins and usually knows about four colors whose names he can employ in describing pictures.

He may need help and supervision in washing and drying himself although capable of doing both. ¡¾4¡¿ However, sometimes he may put it on back-to-front or inside-out occasionally. Many five-year-olds are still unable to tie their shoelaces and have difficulty with their ties or with inaccessible buttons. Children of this age will often play very well together in pairs with real co-operation while previously they tended to play rather independently although in close proximity. The games which they play on the floor are often complicated and Imaginative.

A. His vocabulary now runs to some 2,000 words, so he can communicate quite freely and easil with adults or other children.

B. By the time a child is five he Is usually able to run lightly on his toes and is skillful at all sorts of activities which involve swinging, digging and sliding.

C. Five-year-olds are often more capable than one might imagine so they deserve praising.

D. There is no real discussion yet-fives talking together in a¡°collective monologue¡±; quarreling with words

E. He can dress and undress himself quite quickly and is able to distinguish the back and front of his garment.

F. Children of this age are willing to play in twos or threes and as a result they are often engaged in mini talk.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.

You cannot maintain rising standards of living in a flattening world when you are up ¡¾1¡¿ competitors who are getting ¡¾2¡¿ their fundamentals (»ù±¾·¨Ôò) right but also their intangibles (ÎÞÐμÛÖµ). China does not just want to get rich. It wants to get powerful. China doesn¡¯t just want to learn how to make General Motors (GM) cars. It wants to be GM and put GM out of business. Anyone ¡¾3¡¿ doubts that should spend time with young Chinese.

Said Luis Rubio, president of Mexico¡¯s Center of Research for Development, ¡°The more self-confidence you have, the more it decreases your mythologies (Éñ»°£¬´íÎóµÄ¹Ûµã) and complexes. ¡¾4¡¿ of the great things about Mexico in the early 1990s was that Mexicans saw that they could do it, they could make it.¡± A lot of that self-confidence, though, ¡¾5¡¿lose) in Mexico in recent years, because the government stopped reforming. ¡°A lack of self-confidence leads a country ¡¾6¡¿ (keep) chewing on the past,¡± added Rubio. ¡°A lack of self-confidence [in Mexico] means that everyone in the country thinks the U. S. is going to take Mexico to the cleaners.¡± That is why North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was so important for Mexico¡¯s self-confidence. ¡°¡¾7¡¿ NAFTA accomplished was to get Mexicans to think forward and outward ¡¾8¡¿ inward and backward. [But] NAFTA was seen [by its architects] as an end more than a beginning. It was seen as the conclusion of a process of political and economic reforms. ¡± ¡°Unfortunately,¡± he added, ¡°Mexico did not have a strategy for a going forward.¡±

Will Rogers said it a long time ago: ¡°Even if you¡¯re on the right track, you¡¯ll get run over ¡¾9¡¿ you just sit there. ¡± The ¡¾10¡¿ (flat) the world gets, that will happen. Mexico got itself on the right track with reform wholesale, but then, for a lot of tangible and intangible reasons, it just sat there and reform retail stopped. The more Mexico just sits there, The more it is going to get run over. And it won¡¯t be alone.
