You get on an almost-empty bus, but the next passenger decides to ignore all the empty seats to sit right next to you. While you are waiting in line at the supermarket, the next customer stands just behind you shouting into his phone.
These are attacks of the personal space invaders(ÇÖÂÔÕß). Though preferences for personal space differ from culture to culture, we Britons do love our independence and personal space.
As the British customs website Debrett has said, as a British person, somebody standing too close may make you ¡°focus less on what somebody is saying than on how close they are to you¡±. Simple acts like putting an arm around someone you don't know that well may seem friendly in China, but they can make us very uncomfortable. The ediplomat.com website explains: ¡°The British are not back slappers (ÅÄ´òÕß) or touchers and generally do not show affection (ϲ»¶) in public.¡±
Being a British person around people from other countries can therefore be full of problems. People from many European countries such as France and Spain kiss each other on the cheek when they meet, yet to us this seems too friendly and ¡°touchy-feely¡±.
Simple matters like how close others stand can be problems to Britons who want to keep their own personal space. Giving advice on how to behave around a British person, Debrett's says that ¡°if you can feel the warmth of their worried breath upon your face, then you're standing too close¡±.
So, are British people unfriendly? No. The ediplomat.com website explains that we are not as ¡°indifferent¡± as we may seem, but ¡°very friendly and helpful to foreigners¡±. However, we do have different ideas about our own space to many people from other countries. Just let us know if you're going to come any closer than arm's length, and you'll be fine!
£¨1£©What is the article mainly about?
A.How to make friends with British people.

A.kiss him/her on the cheek
B.put an arm around him/her
C.keep an arm's length away from him/her
D.slap his/her back or shake his/her hands
£¨3£©The underlined word ¡°indifferent¡± in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to ¡°_____¡±.
A.cold

£¨4£©What can we conclude from the article?
A.British people like to sit next to others on empty buses.

People all need friends because nobody wants to be lonely and a friend can help you in good and bad times. You've made friends since childhood, but you still don't know who your true friends are. Here are some signs to tell you if your friend is a true friend:
Always honest
Honesty is important to keep a relationship alive. A true friend always tells you the truth. It may be hard sometimes but lying can destroy a friendship. It is important that your friend speaks honestly and never makes up stories.
______________
There are always periods in your life when you have problems or difficulties. A true friend will always have time to listen to your problems and give advice. It may not be able to offer a solution to your problems but the fact that your friend made time to listen is a sign he/she cares for you. Your friend is not a true friend if he/she can never make time for you when you are in trouble. You also need to be reasonable and accept that your friend also has other things to do so he/she can't always listen immediately to your problems.
Always respectful
A true friend will always respect your opinion no matter whether he/she agrees or not. Your true friend may disagree but never insists that he/she is correct.
Always understanding
It is possible that some problems will arise between you and your friend. A true friend will always be forgiving and understanding even if it isn't his /her fault. We are all different people and we all make mistakes. A true friend is always forgiving and understanding because he/she doesn't want to take the risk of losing his/her best friend.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿The Sydney Opera House has a very interesting history. ¡¾1¡¿ all started in the 1940s, when the Sydney Symphony Orchestra had nowhere to play. Our ancestors£¨×æÏÈ£©made the old saying that friends(be) like wine-the older, the better.Because of that, many people think old friends to be(important) than new ones. For example,if two pieces of advice are given to solve a problem, one from a new friend and the other from an old friend, people always prefer to choose the latter one,the new friend's advice may be better.
(disagree) with the old saying,I believe that new friends are not(necessary) worse than old friends. Why?Because the(long) of time cannot tell whether your friendship is better or not.
Once you call someone friend,he must be a person who is(rely) and whose interests are in common with(you).Maybe a friend's outside look(change) all the time, but the inside characters of him and his interests won't change at all.It is just these unchangeable characters and interests that make him a friend to you.,there is no difference between old friends and new ones on this point.
