12.Believe it or not,optical illusion(错觉) can cut highway crashes.
Japan is a case in point.It has reduced automobile crashes on some roads by nearly 75percent using a simple optical illusion.But stripes,called chevrons(人字形),painted on the roads make drivers think that they are driving faster than they really are,and thus drivers slow down.
Now the American Automobile Association Foundation for Traffic Safety in Washington D.C.is planning to repeat Japan's success.Starting next year,the foundation will paint chevrons and other patterns of stripes on selected roads around the country to test how well the patterns reduce highway crashes.
Excessive (too great) speed plays a major role in as much as one fifth of all fatal traffic accidents,according to the foundation.To help reduce those accidents,the foundation will conduct its tests in areas where speed-related hazards (danger) are the greatest curves (曲线),exit slopes,traffic circles,and bridges.
Some studies suggest that straight,horizontal bars painted across roads can initially(最初) cut the average speed of drivers in half.However,traffic often returns to full speed within months as drivers become used to seeing the painted bars.
Chevrons,scientists say,not only give drivers the impression that they are driving faster than they really are but also make a lane appear to be narrower.The result is a longer lasting reduction in highway speed and the number of traffic accidents.

51.The passage mainly discussesA.
A.a new way of highway speed control
B.a new pattern for painting highways

B.they are driving in the wrong lane
C.they should slow down their speed
D.they are coming near to the speed limit
53.The advantage of chevrons over straight,horizontal bars is that the formerD.
A.can keep drivers awake
B.can cut road accidents in half
C.will look more attractive
D.will have a longer effect on drivers

A.try out the Japanese method in certain areas
B.change the road signs across the country

55.What does the author say about straight,horizontal bars painted across roads?C

C.They are ignored in a long period of time.
D.They cannot be used successfully to traffic circles.

20.As a music teacher for twenty-seven years,I have always known that music touches the soul.It can break through all kinds of barriers(障碍) to reach students in a very special way.It can be the means for each child to find their light.
A few years ago,I was blessed with the opportunity to teach pre-school students one afternoon a week. One of my most memorable(令人难忘的)students was Vanessa. She was five years old,had difficulty walking, and could not speak. We mostly sat on the floor for our music lessons and Vanessa liked to sit on my lap.One of her favorite songs was John the Rabbit. It was a call and response song where I sang the call and the students clapped two times while singing the repeating phrase,"Oh,yes!"Vanessa liked to put her hands together with mine and clap with me.We performed that song during every class,Vanessa and I clapping together. She never said or sang a word.
One day late in the school year, when the song was finished,Vanessa turned around, looked me in the eye, clapped her tiny hands two times and said the words"Oh,yes!"I opened my mouth and could not spe ak.Through music,we had made a connection.
Several years later,I came across Vanessa on the street in town.I stopped my car and waved to say hello. She waved back with a big smile on her face and then clapped her hands two times, mimicking(模仿) the song we had performed in our music class. This precious little girl, through her connection with music, left an impression on me that will last forever.
Every child has the ability to learn and grow.It is up to us educators to discover the way to reach each and every one of our stu dents. We all must find each child's light.

7.What we know of prenatal development makes all this attempt made by a mother to mold the character of her unborn child by studying poetry,art,or mathematics during pregnancy seem totally impossible.How could such extremely complex influences pass from the mother to the child?There is no connection between their nervous systems.Even the blood vessels of mother and child do not join directly.An emotional shock to the mother will affect her child,because it changes the activity of her glands (腺体) and so the chemistry of her blood.Any chemical change in the mother's blood will affect the child for better or worse.But we can not see how a looking for mathematics or poetic genius can be dissolved in blood and produce a similar liking or genius in the child.
In our discussion of instincts we saw that there was reason to believe that whatever we inherit must be of some very simple sort rather than any complicated or very definite kind of behavior.It is certain that no one inherits a knowledge of mathematics.It may be,however,that children inherit more or less of a rather general ability that we may call intelligence.If very intelligent children become deeply interested in mathematics,they will probably make a success of that study.
As for musical ability,it may be that what is inherited is an especially sensitive ear,a peculiar structure of the hands or the vocal organs connections between nerves and muscles that make it comparatively easy to learn the movements a musician must execute,and particularly vigorous emotions.If these factors are all organized around music,the child may become a musician.The same factors,in other circumstance might be organized about some other center of interest.The rich emotional equipment might find expression in poetry.The capable fingers might develop skill in surgery.It is not the knowledge of music that is inherited,then nor even the love of it,but a certain bodily structure that makes it comparatively easy to acquire musical knowledge and skill.Whether that ability shall be directed toward music or some other undertaking may be decided entirely by forces in the environment in which a child grows up.

74.Which of the following statements is not true?B
A.Some mothers try to influence their unborn children by studying art and other subjects
during their pregnancy.
B.It is totally impossible for us to learn anything about prenatal development.
C.The blood vessels of mother and child do not join directly.
D.There are no connection between mother's nervous systems and her unborn child's.
75.A mother will affect her unborn baby on the condition thatA.
A.she is emotionally shocked
B.she has a good knowledge of inheritance
C.she takes part in all kind of activities
D.she sticks to studying
76.According to the passage,a child may inheritC.
A.everything from his mother
B.a knowledge of mathematics
C.a rather general ability that we call intelligence
D.her mother's musical ability
77.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?A
A.Role of Inheritance
B.An Unborn Child
C.Function of instincts
D.Inherited Talents.

Please treasure your college years-make the best of your free time,become an independent thinker in control of your destiny,be bold to experiment,learn and grow through your successes and challenges.May Columbia become the happiest four years in your life,and may you blossom into just what you dream to be.

What makes one person more intelligent than another? What makes one person genius, like the brilliant Albert Einstein, and another person a fool? Are people born intelligent or stupid, or is intelligence the result of where and how you live? 1..

We know, however, that just being born with a good mind is not enough. In some ways, the mind is like a leg or an arm muscle. 2.. Mental exercise is particularly important for young children. Many child psychologists think that parents should play with their children more often and give them problems to think about. 3..If, on the other hand, children are left alone a great deal with nothing to do, they are more likely to become dull and unintelligent.

4..According to some psychologists, if parents are always telling a child that he or she is a fool or an idiot, then the child is more likely to keep doing silly and foolish things. So it is probably better for parents to say very positive (helpful) things to their children, such as “That was a very clever thing you did.” or “5..”

B.Parents should also be careful with what they say to young children.

C.What people want express is like this.

科目:高中英语 来源:2017届黑龙江省大庆市高三第三次教学质量检测(三模)英语试卷(解析版) 题型:阅读理解

The chances are that you’ve walked past a QR Code(二维码) or come into contact with one recently, possibly without noticing. Even if you haven’t seen one before, here are some examples for you.

But what exactly are QR Codes? Very simply, they are bar-codes, not too dissimilar to the bar-codes you saw on the package of almost every product you bought. QR Codes are combined with multiple rows and columns(列), which allows QR Code to stone its data.

QR Codes started out in the East but their popularity exploded worldwide within a few years. They are flexible, cheap, easy to read by scanners as simple as an App on your smart phone and easy for anybody to create. The direction of reading the QR codes is not limited. Even when damaged there is a chance that they are still readable. Unlike traditional bar-codes which are 1 dimensional (using 1 row of lines), QR Codes use 2 dimensions, which allows them to store a lot more data in the same area of space.

But can a picture or music be stored in a QR Code? Images and sounds consume much more data than text and a QR Code is limited to storing 3kb of data. The size of an image will need to be made so small to be stored that it will be impractical to do so. So it is with songs. In fact if you have a need to present the user with an image or kick off a music stream when they scan your QR Code, why not look to host it somewhere and then have your QR code simply linked to the content?

Not only have QR Codes surely brought us great convenience, but also security concerns at the same time. For example, a QR Code may be covered by one designed by a cheater on purpose, without being recognized. You sign up entering all your account details only to find the following day someone has gained access to your account because of the information you entered in that website.

1.What do we know about QR Codes?

A. They can be scanned from any direction

B. They use 1 row of lines to store data.

C. They are readable when damaged.

D. They are flexible but not cheap.

2.Which is one big drawback of QR Codes?

A. A QR Code can be linked to somewhere else.

B. QR Codes cannot be used to present a picture.

C. A QR Code can store data of no more than 3kb.

D. QR Codes can only be read with an app on your smart phone.

3.From the text we can infer that _______.

A. traditional bar-codes have an advantage over QR codes in storing data

B. we had better pay attention to the security when using QR codes

C. it makes sense to store a song of a picture in a QR code

D. QR Codes are so dangerous that they are not worth using

4.The text mainly talks about______.

A. the use of QR Codes

B. the disadvantages of QR Codes

C. the advantages of QR Codes

D. the formation of QR Codes
