As soon as you invited, it is good manners to refuse and accept the invitation, either by writing or by telephoning. When you will go to the party, it is polite to arrive at on time. It is good manners to shake hand with your host and the other guests. You can take a present with you if you like, possible a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates or some flowers. However, it was not bad manners to take nothing. It is not polite to stay too late before the other guests have gone. Of course, it is good manners to write or telephone a day or two to thank your host.
