¡¾´ð°¸¡¿Dear Editor£in£Chief£¬
Congratulations on the fifth anniversary of Global Mirror!
I'm a regular reader of your newspaper. I like it very much mainly for the following two reasons. First, it covers both national and international news so that, by simply turning the pages, I can learn all important things that have happened during the week. Equally attractive are the success stories of world£famous people, which help me understand how a person can work hard to make the world a better place.
As a young student, I suggest that Global Mirror carry articles to guide us in our English learning, and I hope that it will become even more popular.
Yours sincerely£¬

My sister saw a lovely cup when we were shopping the another day. She began to like it at Once. Then she bent down and picked it down to look at the price on them. As she did this, lots of teas splashed (ÆÃÈ÷£©on her T-shirt! I had to try hard not to laugh at her shocking face! My sister was about to get out of the shop fast as she could when a shop assistant come over to us. It turned out to being her own cup, which she¡¯d left on the shelf by the mistake. The assistant was clear as embarrassed (ÞÏÞεģ©as my sister, but I just thought it was funny!

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿In 1940 the German army entered the Netherlands, beginning an occupation that lasted five years. Members of the Dutch royal family(ºÉÀ¼»ÊÊÒ) were forced to go to the United Kingdom to avoid being caught. However, the threat of German bombing attacks meant that England was not completely safe. For this reason Princess Juliana and her daughters, Princesses Beatrix and Irene, moved to Canada and settled in Ottawa. In January 1943 Juliana gave birth to a third daughter, Princess Margriet Francisca. The Government of Canada temporarily declared her place of birth as outside of Canadian land, meaning Margriet could hold Dutch citizenship and therefore still be qualified for the Dutch throne.
In 1945, the Dutch royal family returned home. Shortly after her return, Princess Juliana presented 100,000 tulip bulbs to Canada in appreciation of the important role played by Canadian troops in liberating the Netherlands and for providing her family with a safe place during the war. The following year she sent 20,500 tulip bulbs. Juliana continued to send thousands of bulbs as a yearly gift, a tradition that continued after she became queen in 1948. The gift of tulips is an ongoing tradition, and each year the people of the Netherlands and the Dutch royal family each send 10,000 bulbs to Canada in recognition of the close ties between the two countries. The gift of bulbs and the tulip flowers attracted interest and visitors in Ottawa. In 1952 Karsh, an Armenian-born photographer, suggested the idea of a tulip festival to the Ottawa Board of Trade. The first Canadian Tulip Festival took place in 1953. The first festival proved popular, and it became a yearly event. To mark the festival¡¯s 50th anniversary in 2002, Canada Post issued a series of commemorative stamps(¼ÍÄîÓÊƱ) and plates featuring the flowers and Princess Margriet returned to visit Ottawa. In the following years the festival began to focus more on international friendship and the festival¡¯s historical origins. Now it is one of the world¡¯s largest tulip shows.

One year ago, I had a special English lesson hold at the railway station. It was quite different from the regular English classes we were familiar to, for we had no textbooks, no blackboard and no fixed seats.
Gathered at the entrance of the station, we told to collect as much English words and sentence as possible there. Curious and excited, we walked around the station and looked everywhere, search for any information in English. Whenever an English word comes into sight, the class wouldburstinto the cheers as if we had discovered a new world. With the Chinese translation and vividly pictures, we could figure out its meaning with ease.
Now, this unforgettable lesson still encourages me to be an active learner where I go.

Last summer, I went to work as a volunteer teacher in a small village, that is located in the south of our country. The children there were all from poor families, but they didn't have nice clothes to wear or food eat. They had to do much housework as our parents had gone to work in cities to make money. They had to take care for their little brothers or sisters. They live a hard life. But they were eager to learn less about the outside world. When asking about their dreams, they gave me the same answer. They said they hoped they could return to their small villages after graduating from college to make their hometown the more beautiful.

Recently an English speaking competition held in Chongqing People¡¯s Great Hall on April 15. Senior I and II students from Chongqing take part in it. The students introduced Queensland and Chongqing but also compared life and study to Chongqing and Queensland. Through the competition students know Queensland better. They have also improved their language ability, who will be a good help for cultural communication. The first six best students will enjoy a freely trip to Queensland. We will live and study there for two weeks in August.
I also took part in a competition. Ranked 3rd, I will be given the chances too. I am glad I will experience life in Queensland myself and to improve my English as well.

I just come back from Britain last week. I was luckily enough to be one of the student from different countries to visit the UK from Feb. 16 to 28. We paid a visit to many places, like London, Oxford or the Lake District. I learned much about British culture and history in London, where was my favorite. I also liked Oxford, in which I saw much more old buildings. The Lake District was beautiful, but it was pity that it rained heavily when they were there. The most excited thing for me in the Britain was that I made a lot of friends there.

People have strange ideas about food. For example, tomato is a kind very delicious vegetable. It is one of useful plant that can be prepared in many ways. It has rich nutrition(ÓªÑø) and vitamin in it. But in the 18th century, Americans never eat tomatoes. They grew them in their gardens because of tomato plants are so pretty. But they thought the vegetable was poisonous. They called tomatoes ¡°poison apples¡±.
President Thomas Jefferson, but, knew that tomatoes were good to eat. He was a learning man. He had been to Paris, which he learned to love the taste of tomatoes. He grew many kinds of tomatoes in their garden. The President taught his cook a way for a cream of tomato soup. This beautiful pink soup was served at the President party. The guests thought the soup tasted really well . They never thought their president would serve his honored guests poison apples. Jefferson never spoke with his honored guests about the fact.
