Evelyn Glennie was the first lady of solo percussion in Scotland. In an interview, she recalled how she became a percussion soloist(打击乐器独奏演员) though she was a disabled woman.
“Early on I decided not to allow the   16  of others to stop me from becoming a musician. I grew up on a farm in northeast Scotland and began   17  piano lessons when I was eight. The older I got, the more my passion(酷爱) for music grew. But I also began to gradually lose my   18  . Doctors told me that the nerve (神经) damage was the   19  and by age twelve, I was completely deaf. But my love for music never   20   me.”
“My   21  was to become a percussion soloist, even though there were none at that time. To perform, I   22  to ‘hear’ music differently from others. I play using my feet and can   23  the pitch of a note(音调高低) by the vibrations(振动). I feel through my body and through my  24 . My entire sound world exists by making full ___25___ of every sense that I have.”
“I was   26  to be considered as a musician, but not as a deaf musician, and I applied to the famous Royal Academy of Music in London. No other deaf student had   27  this before and some teachers were ___28___ to admit me. However, based on my performance, I was   29  admitted and went on to   30  with great honour.”
“After that, I became a full-time solo percussionist. I   31 a lot of musical pieces since   32__  had been written specially for solo percussionists.”
“I have been a soloist for over ten years.   33  the doctor thought I was totally deaf, it didn’t   34  that my passion couldn’t be realized. I would encourage people not to allow themselves to be   35  by others’ attitude. Follow your passion; follow your heart. They will lead you to the place you want to go.”

D项应为disappear from sb.。

因为Glennie以前没有失聪过,所以不会有experience(经验);而carefulness(细心)和身体的movement(运动)对聋人来说是无法分辨音调高低的。
小题1: A。"我只有通过调动全部的感觉(sense)器官"才能弥补失聪的遗憾来感受周围世界。定语从句I have修饰的我能拥有的sense 感觉、effort努力、feeling感情、idea想法中A项符合句意。
小题1: A。"以前没有失聪学生做过(done)这件事(applied to the Royal Academy of Music)"。
以最高的荣誉从the Royal Academy of Music毕业(graduate)。
小题1: A。
小题1: A。

In a new article, Zehr, a professor at the University of Victoria, Victoria, British Columbia, describes his success in using the Caped Crusader (披篷骑士) to engage students in the study of physiology.
"Batman (蝙蝠侠) has such powerful influence on readers because he is a fictional human with superpowers that seem within reach if we only work at it," writes Zehr, in a new article published in Advances in Physiology Education, a journal of the American Physiological Society. Zehr believes that it is not Batman's vast wealth that allows him to protect the citizens of Gotham City (哥谭市) , but his dedication to developing a wide range of physical skills.
Zehr uses Batman to establish a framework, grounded in his fictional universe as well as our real one, in order to discuss the various components of exercise and physical training and illustrate how the body's physiological systems respond. His experiences in teaching undergraduate courses in physiology and neurophysiology made him realize that connecting science to popular culture helped students understand the lessons better.
He first presented a formal analysis of the personal and physical discipline that would be required to transform an ordinary person into a superhero in his book, Becoming Batman: The Possibility of a Superhero. The book drew on Zehr's understanding and work in human movement and the plasticity of nerves and muscles associated with exercise. By coincidence, the book was published in the wake of The Dark Knight, the blockbuster movie which recounts Batman and his arch-enemy, the Joker.
With the casting almost complete for the sequel(续集), The Dark Knight Rises, Dr. Zehr writes about his experiences connecting science to popular culture, which is captured in the Advances, article, "A Personal View: From Claude Bernard to the Batcave and Beyond: Using Batman as a hook for physiology education."

While I was in 9th grade, I built a circuit (电路装置) for the traffic system of our city. After getting the first prize, I got this valuable advice from my father: “Do whatever interests you, and don’t let the work challenge you, make sure you are challenging that work.”
I have always preferred the projects which are challenging and related to real life problems. I clearly remember building a shipping program several years ago. I divided the whole project into several small sections. When I understood it clearly, I used my brainstorming skill on it, and gave some basic ideas. Then I asked my professor for help before jumping into coding (编码). At first, I did not know how to ask questions correctly and always asked the question “How do I do it?” As I kept working and discussed with my professor, I became more comfortable and those “how” questions soon turned into “what if I do this and that” types of questions.
It took me four days to write the code. The desire to solve the problem kept me sleepless all nights brainstorming in even greater details. Every time I saw my program running smoothly, I exploded with joy. I still remember the last day of my work. I was getting some problem and didn’t know what to do. At that moment, a man came in to clean. He had headphones, and he was dancing while cleaning the room. Seeing this, I burst out laughing. That moment calmed me. I regained energy and interest and started to work again, and soon I fixed the problem.
My success in the project proved that breaking up a large problem into small parts could help find a possible solution. Discussing the problem with others was also very beneficial. Now I have gained the confidence to attempt any kind of project.

A.developing traffic systemsB.doing challenging projects
C.winning great prizesD.writing different codes
小题2: The writer asked the question “how do I do it” at first because ______.

A.would benefit people a lotB.was done together with others
C.was difficult and needed patienceD.cost much money and energy

A woman renewing her driver’s license at the County Clerk’s office was asked to state her occupation. She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.
“What I mean is,” explained the recorder, “do you have a job, or are you just a …”
“Of course I have a job,” said Emily.“I’m a mother.”
“We don’t list ‘mother’ as an occupation… ‘housewife’ covers it,” said the recorder.
One day I found myself in the same situation. The clerk was obviously a career woman, confident and possessed of a high sounding title.“What is your occupation?” she asked.
The words simply popped out.“I’m a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations.”
The clerk paused, ballpoint pen frozen in midair.
I repeated the title slowly, and then I stared with wonder as my statement was written in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.
“Might I ask,” said the clerk with new interest, “Just what you do in this field?”
Coolly, without any trace of panic in my voice, I heard myself reply, “I have a continuing program of research (what mother doesn’t), in the lab and in the field (normally I would have said indoors and out).Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities (any mother care to disagree?), and I often work 14 hours a day (24 is more like it).But the job is more challenging than most careers and rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money.”
There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk’s voice as she completed the form, stood up, and showed me out.
As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up (依托) by my glamorous new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants---ages 13, 7, and 3.
Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model (a 6 month old baby), in the child-development program, testing out a new vocal pattern.
I felt proud! I had gone on the official records as someone more distinguished and indispensable (不可缺少的) to mankind than “just another mother.”
Motherhood…What a great career! Especially when there’s a title on the door.
小题1:What can we infer from the conversation between the woman and the recorder at the beginning of the passage?
A.The woman felt ashamed to admit what her job was.
B.The recorder was impatient and rude.
C.The author was upset about the situation that mothers faced.
D.Motherhood was not recognized and respected as a job by society.
小题2:How did the female clerk feel at first when the author told her occupation?
A.curiousB.indifferent C.puzzledD.interested
小题3:Why did the woman clerk show more respect for the author?
A.Because the author cared little about rewards.
B.Because she admired the author’s research work in the lab.
C.Because she thought the author did admirable work.
D.Because the writer did something she had little knowledge of.
小题4:What is the author’s purpose of writing the passage?
A.To show how you describe your job affects your feelings toward it.
B.To argue that motherhood is a worthy career and deserves respect.
C.To show that the author had a grander job than Emily.
D.To show that being a mother is hard and boring work.

The center offers the kids and their families a safe place to connect with others who have the same problem. To reduce the risk of infections, the center's staff wash their own and the children's hands frequently, and provide each child with his or her own toys and supplies.
“You feel like you’re not the sick kid’s mom,”said one child’s mother,Maura Lewinger.“It is nice because none of the parents at the center are alienated(孤立的).”
The Zuchs run the center as a non-profit organization and any family can bring their children to the center for free.Nancy Zuch works as the head teacher-with a little help from her daughter Morgan, now l2 years old.Today,Morgan is strong and healthy, and loves to provide support for the children who are going through the difficult time that she once went through. She says she wants to be a teacher at the Morgan Center when she grows up.
