    Peanut allergies (过敏) are among the most common and most dangerous of food allergies. A tiny exposure to peanuts can mean big trouble for a person with a peanut allergy—not just sneezing or coughing，but something as potentially deadly as narrowing of the airways.
    But a recent study suggests that some children may be able to beat back their allergic reactions to peanuts by gradually introducing trace amounts of the nut into their diets. It's too early to say for certain，so if you have a peanut allergy，do not try this at home. But the first results look promising.
    Two teams of scientists have been experimenting on a group“of 29 children who are allergic to peanuts”At the beginning of the study，each kid received less than 1/1，000 of a peanut per day.     Nine of the children have been receiving the treatment for two years，and five of those nine now appear to be free of their peanut allergies，and can eat peanuts with no problem. But the other four have not benefited so much from the therapy（治疗）.
    The two teams of scientists are now doing a follow-up study on two groups of children with the allergy. Children in one group will receive the new therapy，while the others will not. Researchers hope this study will help them learn if the therapy truly does work.
    Scientists don't understand why some people get peanut allergies and others don't，but are trying to find a way to help people with the allergy. Because of the severity of some peanut allergies，scientists want to know the answer as soon as possible. “This is very encouraging， but remember，it's not something you try at home，”says one of the researchers.

    A healthy dose of sunshine may be the secret to staying young, British scientists have disclosed.
    Vitamin D is produced naturally by the skin in response to sunlight and may help to slow the ageing process and protect against heart disease, according to the study.
    Researchers from King's College London studied 2,160 women aged between 18 and 79, looking at their telomeres - a biological marker of ageing found in DNA．As people get older, their telomeres get shorter and they are easy to have illnesses.
    But the study found women with high levels of vitamin D had comparatively longer telomeres - a sign of being biologically younger and healthier.

    "This could help to explain how vitamin D has a protective effect on many ageing related diseases, such as heart disease and cancer."
    He said further studies are required to confirm the findings.
    Professor Tim Spector, head of KCL's twin research unit, and a co-author of the report, added: "Although it might sound absurd(荒谬的), it's possible that the same sunshine which may increase our risk of skin cancer may also have a healthy effect on the general ageing process."
    Vitamin D made by the action of sunlight on the skin accounts for 90 per cent of the body's supply, but lower levels can also be obtained through food such as fish, eggs and breakfast cereals.
    Other studies have suggested the vitamin plays a key role in protecting against cancer and heart disease.

    In the study,researchers had twenty women wear two pairs of shoes with three-inch heels,one with a narrow heel and the other with a thick one.The scientists compared how much pressure was put on the women’s knees by both types of shoes.The women also walked bare-foot to test normal pressure.The scientists found that both types of shoes applied equal amounts of pressure to the knees.Compared with walking barefoot,the heels increased pressure on the inside of the knee by 26 percent.Increased pressure on the knee eventually leads to arthritis,experts say.

    Do you wake up in the morning dreading the moment that your feet have to hit the floor for you to get ready for work? If that’s the case, join most of Americans. Very few people wake up to that annoying alarm clock and spring out of bed excited about having to go to work.

    Looking around at my co-workers, friends and relatives, I saw that they were all doing the same thing I was doing. They were complaining about the same things I was complaining about : not having enough time or money. And, I decided that I wanted to do something different.
    So, I started a home-based business. There are several to choose from. The extra income has done so much for our family. We can vacation more. We have been able to give more. And, we’ve even been able to do something calling save! It’s been amazing.
    Therefore, if you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, it’s time you make a change, too. The definition of insanity (疯狂) is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I know you aren’t stupid. If you continue to do what everyone else is doing: trading time for money, you’re going to keep getting what everyone else is getting: being broke and not having the time to do what is really important to you.
    Do your due diligence. Find a home-based business that works well for you. Go to work, and live the life you’ve always imagined!

    The Tasmanian devil is a rare marsupial(有袋动物)that lives only on the Australian island state of Tasmania. The doglike animal is rapidly disappearing. The Tasmanian state government estimates that the number of devils has dropped from around 150,000 in the mid-1990s to between 20,000 and 50,000 at the end of 2007.
    The devil was declared an endangered species last week. It is being wiped out by a rare cancer called devil facial tumor(肿瘤)disease(DFTD). It spreads like a cold or flu from animal to animal. The disease is passed when one devil bites another. When the marsupial is infected with DFTD, large tumors develop around its mouth and neck. These growths make it impossible for the devil to eat. Many finally die from starvation within six months of being infected. As the name implies, the disease occurs only in Tasmanian devils and cannot be passed to humans.
    You’ve got to remember that devils are scavengers(清扫工). They search through garbage for food. Throughout Tasmania people maintain outdoor dumps. If somebody threw out a carcass(兽类尸体), then the devils might actually consume quite large quantities of it.
    The disease has not yet appeared in the devil population that lives in the northwest region of Tasmania.
