8.Through the wonders of modern technology, our world is more connected than ever before.Ideas can cross oceans with the click of a button.Companies can do business and compete with companies across the globe. And we can text, email,Skype with people on every continent.
So studying abroad isn't just a fun way to spend a semester; it is quickly becoming the key to success in our global economy.Because getting ahead in today's work places isn't just about getting good grades or test scores in school, which are important. It's also about having real experience with the world beyond your borders--experience with languages, cultures and societies very different from your own.Or,as the Chinese saying goes:"It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books."
But let's be clear, studying abroad is about so much more than improving your own future. It's also about shaping the future of your countries and of the world we all share.Because when it comes to the defining challenges of our time--whether it's climate change or economic opportunity or the spread of nuclear weapons--these are shared challenges. And no one country can confront them alone. The only way forward is together.

15.Most of my friends are moving outside the city..to avoid the noise,smog,traffic,and crime of the city.
One friend says,"The air is heavily polluted in the city,so I prefer to live outside, where the air is clean."
Another friend is unpleased with the traffic,"Downtown is crowded with cars!You can't find a parking place,and the traffic jams are terrible."Everyone is worried about crime,"The city is full of criminals-it's too dangerous."
For them, the rural(乡村的) life is a cure for all problems, green grass, flowers, swimming pools, barbecues, and so on.Yet after they have lived there for a year or so,they realize that rural life is not so pleasant as they were expecting. Why?Their gardens! They soon learn that the main part of rural life is yard work. After they work all weekend in their gardens, they're too tired to swim in their pools or cook some meat on their barbecues.And they can't live in the countryside without a car.Most of them moved to the countryside to avoid traffic, but now they're blocked on a busy freeway two hours every day to drive to work downtown.
My opinions about urban life are different-I love to live downtown!Why?First,in the city,I can enjoy nature.I can walk through the park.smell.the flowers,sit on the grass and visit the animals in the zoo.Yet I don't have to do yard work or feed the animals. Also,I can get everywhere by bus; if there is a traffic jam,I can walk home.I think the criminal life will reflect changes in society too; if people are buying homes outside the city,the criminals will soon follow.Criminals want to avoid noise,smog,and pollution,too.Then,overcrowding and crime will be problems of the suburbs instead of the city!

5.Pressure and Pleasure
The town of Pressure and the town of Pleasure were neighbors but had nothing in common.(71)C
In Pressure,everyone struggled to be the very best.When women gave birth,they would compete to have the baby with the loudest cry.(72)B Because wealth was the index(指数)of success,people were always busy making money,with no time for relaxation.Some young people couldn't bear the intensity(紧张) and resorted to drink or drugs to escape.
(73)E People grew up without pressure and could do anything they liked.Children played computer games day and night.At school,teachers didn't care whether students showed up or not.Workers might sit around the office all day long sipping coffee and doing nothing.Thanks to the lack of regulation,nobody worried about losing their jobs.(74)A No one had the slightest thought of moving forward,either for themselves or for the town.The computers they used were old models from Pressure.
Some of the young in both were addicted to drugs because of the emptiness of their lives.Then,people in the two towns began asking themselves,"What is life for?"But,just before life in the two towns completely failed,there came a saint-Mr.Reason.He went from door to door,talking with people and giving advice.People in Pressure learnt to be content with what they had,while people in Pleasure began to make plans.(75)G The townspeople came to realize the truth-there is no space between Pressure and Pleasure if don't go to extremes.

12.How Can I Fight Laziness?
Lazy people will never gain anything in life.However,laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind.
(36)C Many people lack sleep constantly,since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work.These people have little motivation once they arrive home.Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things.By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest,you can fight laziness throughout the day.
Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active.Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from task to task.Others take a more positive approach,vewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone.(37)F
Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations(诱惑) that surround them.A television in the living room may provide entertainment,but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness.(38)G Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy,such as a good dinner or a film.
Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home.Couples and children may all have different energy levels,but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately.(39)A Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal.Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task.It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated people.
(40)DEnough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle,thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits.
A.To fight family laziness,set an example.
B.Knowing how to fight laziness is important.
C.One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep.
D.Finally,taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness.
E.With strong determination,you will be able to achieve your goal.
F.Laziness appears when you no longer feel in charge of your own mind.

9.Some people bring out the best in you in a way that you might never have fully realized on your own.My mom was one of those people.
My father died when I was nine months old, making my mom a single mother at the age of eighteen. While I was growing up,we lived a very hard life.We had little money, but my mom gave me a lot of love. Each night, she sat me on her lap and spoke the words that would change my life,"Kemmons, you are certain to be a great man and you can do anything in life if you work hard enough to get it."
At fourteen,I was hit by a car and the doctors said I would never walk again.Every day,my mother spoke to me in her gentle, loving voice, telling me that no matter what those doctors said,I could walk again if I wanted to badly enough. She drove that message so deep into my heart that I finally believed her.A year later,I returned to school-walking on my own!
When the Great Depression (大萧条) hit,my mom lost her job. Then I left school to support the both of us.At that moment,I was determined never to be poor again.
Over the years,I experienced various levels of business success. But the real turning point occurred on a vacation I took with my wife and five kids in 1951.I was dissatisfied with the second-class hotels available for families and was angry that they charged an extra﹩2 for each child. That was too expensive for the average American family.I told my wife that I was going to open a motel (汽车旅馆) for families that would never charge extra for children. There were plenty of doubters at that time.
Not surprisingly, mom was one of my strongest supporters. She worked behind the desk and even designed the room style. As in any business,we experienced a lot of challenges. But with my mother's words deeply rooted in my soul,I never doubted we would succeed.Fifteen years later,we had the largest hotel system in the world-Holiday Inn.In 1979 my company had 1,759 inns in more than fifty countries with an income of﹩1 billion a year.
You may not have started out life in the best situation. But if you can find a task in life worth working for and believe in yourself, nothing can stop you.
