2.Researchers around the world have been trying their hand at making better use of the huge amount of wind energy available in nature to produce clean energy.Apart from this,studies are being carried out to harness(利用) usable wind energy produced by man-made technologies.
One useful source identified by Indian inventor Santosh Pradhan about two years ago is a speeding train, which produces fierce wind that can be transformed into electricity.
According to Pradhan's proposal,with a few small improvements in existing trains running in Mumbai,the largest city in India,at least 10,000megawatts(兆瓦) of electricity could be harvested each day.
Building on this principle,designers Ale Leonetti Luparinia and Qian Jiang from Yanko Design have created a device(装置) called T-Box that harnesses wind energy from speeding trains.
T-Box can be placed within the railway tracks.It is half-buried underground between the concrete sleepers(水泥枕木),which does not disturb the normal train operating at all.According to Yanko,around 150T-Boxes can be fitted along a 1,000-meter railway track.
A train running at a speed of 200kph can produce winds blowing at 15miles a second.Based on this calculation,150T-Boxes can produce 2.6KWH of electricity per day.The T-Box's design won a silver medal in last year's Lite-On Awards and was exhibited last summer at the Xue Xue Institute in Taipei,Taiwan Province.
Though the figures look impressive,it is important to remember that the design is still at a conceptual stage and hasn't taken into account issues such as pieces of waste material produced by the device and the efforts and costs involved in the maintenance(维护) of the device.
We can expect the technology to see the light of the day only after it clears these issues.If so,rail travel,one of the greenest forms of travel,will become greener and more energy-efficient.

46.What can we learn about T-Box?B
A.It will be fitted on the trains.

9.How do you feel about watching other people work?
Nothing is more refreshing on a warm summer day than watching someone else work.
Right now,I'm sitting on my porch and watching young Beth baling (打捆)the big field on top of the hill. She's been haying that field for over ten years.I know:I put her on the tractor when she was just twelve years old.
She picked a great day for baling. It's not too hot,and there's a nice breeze. On Monday, when she cut the field,it was so hot I thought the corn would start popping in the field.Didn't stop her, though. She just stuck that big hat on her head, wrapped a wet handkerchief around her neck, and set to work.I remember when I would have done the same thing.
While I'm here sucking a lemonade,Beth is driving the"hay (干草)train",a tractor pulling a baler and an old wagon. You'd think someone her size would never be able to see over the tractor. But somehow she manages. When she's finished, her tracks are very straight.
The whole time she's haying, that dog of hers is working just as hard, running along beside her like he's afraid she'll drive away without him.Beth sure knew what she was doing when she trained him.
The way the machine works is pure poetry. Each row is pushed into shape. When just enough hay is in a bale,it is wrapped up and fastened together.A second or so later, the bale comes flying out and into the old wagon. The person who invented that machine sure was some kind of genius.
That's not to say it works perfectly.Every once in a while a bale misses the mark, especially when you are turning the machine at the end of a row. That means,of course, that you have to go back and pick up those bales and throw them into the wagon.
I can remember when Beth's mother was her age.She looked an awful lot like Beth does now. Makes a man proud to see his daughter and granddaughter taking such good care of themselves.
Well,I suppose I should get up and fill this glass again. Not much fun sitting here with an empty glass.

60.It can be inferred from the story thatB.
A.Beth is now twenty years old
    B.Beth trained her dog well
C.the writer doesn't bother to give Beth a hand

10.We are all attracted by magicians,who seem to be able to perform impossible acts,such as pulling white rabbits out of hats and cutting a woman in half.Like all performances,though,a magician's real secret is in practicing thoroughly before showing anyone their tricks.
Magic Matchsticks
You will need
•several matchsticks
•a handkerchief with hems (折缝) along the edges
What to do
1.Show the audience a matchstick.
2.Take a clean cotton handkerchief from your pocket,and shake it out,showing both sides to prove you are not hiding anything.
3.Wrap the matchstick in the handkerchief.
4.Ask one of the audience members to feel the matchstick inside the handkerchief,and break it.
5.Shake the handkerchief,allowing the unbroken matchstick to fall onto the floor!
The secret
Before you begin the performance,slip a matchstick into the hem of the handkerchief.When you ask someone to break the wrapped-up matchstick,make sure that they break the one hidden in the hem (when they feel it,they will think it is the one they saw you wrap into the handkerchief).
It's a good idea to have two or three handkerchiefs with matchsticks already secretly in the hems,as your audience is sure to be shocked and ask you to do the trick again. But don't let them realise that you are changing handkerchiefs,or they may become suspicious!

17.A study of school design has discovered that school design can influence a child's development by as much as 25 percent-over the course of an academic year.The 751 pupils using 34 classrooms across seven primary schools in Blackpool were studied by the University of Salford.Standardized data-such as age,gender(性别) and academic performance-were collected on each child at the start and end of the year,while each classroom was evaluated for quality on ten different environmental factors,such as direction for natural light,shape,color and temperature.
The results,published in Building and the Environment,showed that the architecture and design of classrooms has an important role to play in influencing academic performance.Six of the environmental factors-color,choice,connection,complexity,flexibility and light-were clearly correlated with grade scores.
Architect Peter Barrett,the study's head author,said,"This is the first time a whole assessment has been made that successfully links the overall impact directly to learning rates in schools.The impact identified is in fact greater than we imagined."According to the results,once the differences between the"worst"and"best"designed classrooms in the study were taken into account,it was found that the influence that"best"designed classrooms bring is equivalent(相等的) to the progress that a typical pupil would be expected to make over a year.
The results are particularly interesting as the government has introduced a controversial series of standardized templates(模板) for new school buildings,with the purpose of reducing the costs of hiring architects.The opinion on a range of strictly-defined design features replaces the previous Labour government's more architecturally luxurious Building Schools for the Future program,which was canceled by education secretary Michael Gove.He has claimed that his department's new Priority School Building Program,and its basic plans,will put an end to a situation which he believes existed only to"make architects richer".

61.It can be inferred that the standardized dataB.
A.were based on ten environmental factors
B.were collected twice in an academic year
C.were collected by the University of Salford in person
D.were changeable because of the school environment
62.The underlined phrase"correlated with"has the closest meaning toA.
A.associated with
B.compared to
C.unconcerned with
D.based on
63.What did Peter Barrett think of the result of the study?B
A.It was not believable.
B.It was wonderful.
C.It was arguable.
D.It was against his expectations.
64.Why did Michael Gove cancel the program?D
A.Because the program didn't reach the standard.
B.Because standardized templates were not finally decided.
C.Because the program was made by the previous government.
D.Because it was against the government's demand for cost saving.
65.What's the best title for the passage?D
A.School Design Can Greatly Affect Teachers'Life
B.School Design Can Greatly Affect Teachers'Work
C.School Design Can Greatly Affect Children's Interest
