(1) So long as teachers fail to distinguish between teaching and learning, they will continue to undertake to do for children that which only children can do for themselves. Teaching children to read is not passing reading on to them. It is certainly not endless hours spent in activities about reading. Douglas insists that “reading cannot be taught directly and schools should stop trying to do the impossible”.
(2) Teaching and learning are two different processes. _________ in function and in kind. The function of teaching is to create the conditions and the climate that will make it possible for children to devise the most efficient system for teaching themselves to read. Teaching is also public activity. It can be seen and observed.
(3) Learning to read involves all that each individual does to make sense of the world of printed language. Almost all of it is private, for learning is an occupation of the mind, and that process is not open to public observation.
(4) If teacher and learner roles are not interchangeable, what then can be done through teaching that will aid the child in exploring knowledge? Smith has one principal rule for all teaching instructions. “Make learning to read easy, which means making reading a meaningful, enjoyable and frequent experience for children.”
(5) When the roles of teacher and learner are seen for what they are, and when both teacher and learner fulfill them appropriately, then much of the pressure and feeling of failure for both is eliminated. Learning to read is made easier when teachers create an environment where children are given the opportunity to solve the problem of learning to read by reading.

小题2:They differ/They are different/There are differences.
小题3:The/Their roles
小题4:By raising and answering questions/quotation.
小题5:The teaching of reading will be successful./The reading teaching will be a success.

试题分析:
小题1:Reading ability is something gained rather than taught. /Reading activity is something gained by learning.主旨大意题。根据第一段第二句话Teaching children to read is not passing reading on to them. It is certainly not endless hours spent in activities about reading.教孩子读书不是把阅读的内容传递给他们,肯定不是无休止的阅读练习。和最后一段Learning to read is made easier when teachers create an environment where children are given the opportunity to solve the problem of learning to read by reading.当老师为孩子创造一个让孩子学会阅读的机会时,学习阅读就会变得容易了。
小题2:They differ/They are different/There are differences.填空题。根据前句Teaching and learning are two different processes.教与学是两个不同的过程。接下来应是在哪方面不同。可用differ in/be different in或名词difference
小题3:The/Their roles代词指代问题。根据前句When the roles of teacher and learner are seen for what they are当弄明白了老师和学生的角色时,那么and when both teacher and learner fulfill them appropriately,老师和学生都能够准确的履行它们,them肯定是指上文的their roles
小题4:By raising and answering questions/quotation.考查文章的写法。第一句If teacher and learner roles are not interchangeable, what then can be done through teaching that will aid the child in exploring knowledge?作者提出问题。接着作者又回答了问题。
小题5:推理判断题The teaching of reading will be successful./The reading teaching will be a success.根据最后一句. Learning to read is made easier when teachers create an environment where children are given the opportunity to solve the problem of learning to read by reading.可知作者认为老师能鼓励学生找到自己的阅读方法,那么阅读的教学就成功了。

Urbanization
Until relatively recently, the vast majority of human beings lived and died without ever seeing a city. The first city was probably founded no more than 5,500 years ago.     小题1:. In fact, nearly everyone lived on farms or in tiny rural (乡村的) villages. It was not until the 20th century that Great Britain became the first urban society in history--- a society in which the majority of people live in cities and do not farm for a living.
Britain was only the beginning. 小题2: .The process of urbanization--- the migration (迁移) of people from the countryside to the city--- was the result of modernization, which has rapidly transformed how people live and where they live.
In 1990, fewer than 40% of Americans lived in urban areas. Today, over 82% of Americans live in cities. Only about 2% live on farms.       小题3:   .
Large cities were impossible until agriculture became industrialized. Even in advanced agricultural societies, it took about ninety-five people on farms to feed five people in cities.  _小题4:. Until modern times, those living in cities were mainly the ruling elite(精英) and the servants, laborers and professionals who served them. Cities survived by taxing farmers and were limited in size by the amount of surplus food that the rural population produced and by the ability to move this surplus from farm to city.
Over the past two centuries, the Industrial Revolution has broken this balance between the city and the country.       小题5:. Today, instead of needing ninety-five farmers to feed five city people, one American farmer is able to feed more than a hundred non-farmers.
A.That kept cities very small.
B.The rest live in small towns.
C.The effects of urban living on people should be considered.
D.Soon many other industrial nations become urban societies.
E. But even 200 years ago, only a few people could live in cities.
F. Modernization drew people to the cities and made farmers more productive.
G. Modern cities have destroyed social relations and the health of human beings.

Before we start Career Planning with anything, there are pretty a few points related to career planning that we need to look into. Consider these few easy points to help you choose what your plan of action should be towards shaping your future successfully.
小题1:________
Simply put: what’s important to you? Do you value freedom? Do you like independence? Or working as a member of a team? Do you like structure? Or lack of structure? Working a lot of hours? Or working flexible hours? Do you want a job with a considerable paycheck? Or a job that provides significance to your life? These are all critical questions that you must be able to answer because they will affect both your short and long-term happiness.
小题2:________
Too often people choose the wrong careers because they don’t know the variety of jobs that exist within their field of study. Time spent properly studying the profession that you intend to undertake, and the field you wish to enter, is vital. Part of this study should include conducting informational interviews with people who do what you would like to do for a living, visiting websites that contain blogs that are written by people in your elected field, and reading employment magazines that contain stories about the movers and shakers in your industry.
小题3:________
When choosing a career, think the sort of environment that you feel most joyful in. Are you the kind of person who works better with people or with objects? Do you prefer motion and activity, or calm and quiet? You’re more likely to do well in your career when you are in a comfortable environment.
小题4:________
Build up a roadmap for your job and career achievement. A main part of career planning is setting short-term (in the coming year) and long-term (beyond a year) career and job aims. Once you begin this process, another part of career planning becomes reviewing and adjusting those aims as your career plans improvement or change — and developing new aims once you complete your earlier one.
