【题目】
You’re growing up. That means you’re probably experiencing lots of changes, all at once. Your body is changing. It might even seem as if your entire self is changing. It can be confusing and even scary. 【1】 And it’s good!
Growing up means that you can do more, learn more, and start to make your mark on the world. In order for that to happen, your body produces chemicals called hormones that help both body and mind grow. Hormone levels change constantly, rising and falling. 【2】 But it’s partly to blame for intense emotions, surprising reactions, and mood swings.
Because of the way your brain develops, it is somewhat ruled by emotion now and through your teen years. As a result, growing up can seem like an emotional roller coaster! 【3】
●Take care of yourself. If you eat right, sleep enough, and get good exercise, your brain will be much more able to deal with the stress.
●【4】 When you feel your moods swinging or you’re upset, or confused, some quiet time will allow you to gather your thoughts and get calmer.
●Practice relaxing your body and deep breathing when you wake up and when you go to bed.【5】 Plus, when stuff happens during the day, you’ll be able to calm yourself quickly with a deep breath or two before you react. Your body is changing.
A.Take a time-out.
B.But the truth is, it happens to every teen.
C.Work out regularly to keep physically fit.
D.This changing is needed for your body’s development.
E.It will help you fall asleep—and start the morning right.
F.Here are a few things you can do to make the ride smoother.
G.Usually, these feelings settle down when you realize what is going on.

【题目】Stayathome kids are named “generation nini” in Spain. They are those adults who still live at home and are neither working nor studying. But the problem is by no means limited to Spain. It is a worldwide problem.
In Italy, they are known as “bamboccioni” or big babies. There nearly 60 percent of 1834yearold adults still live in their parents' home, up from almost 50 percent since 1983. Once kept there by the love for their mama's homecooked food, the economic crisis has seen a rise in adults left unable to hold down a steady job or afford a home of their own. Last year, an Italian government minister admitted that his mother washed his clothes and made the bed for him until he was 30. He demanded a law forcing young Italians to leave their parents' home at 18 to stop them becoming hopelessly dependent on their parents.
In the UK, the government has made the term NEETS—not in employment, education or training for these children. In England alone the percent of NEETS aged 19-24 surged to 18.8 percent of the age group—in the last quarter of 2010, up 1.4 percent on the same period a year before. The number of British men in their 20s living with their parents has risen from 59 percent to 80 percent in the past 15 years, while the number of women has risen from 41 percent to 50 percent. The average age of the firsttime house buyers is now 38.
In the US, the problem is known as the “full nest syndrome (综合症)”. Adults there are left struggling to support adult children who have stayed at home with student debts and facing few job opportunities in a weak economy. A recent study showed almost a third of American adults aged 34 and under are living with their parents.
【1】“Big babies” mentioned in Paragraph 2 refer to those adults who ________.
A. are poorly educated
B. are not as smart as others
C. lose their job in the bad economy
D. rely on their parents for a living
【2】The Italian government minister thinks that ________.
A. parents should make their children feel hopeless
B. young people should live on their own after 18
C. parents should never make the bed for their children
D. it is OK for adult children to live with their parents
【3】The underlined word “surged” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by “________”.
A. jumped B. reduced
C. recovered D. moved
【4】What does the last paragraph tell us?
A. Some American adult children are a burden to their parents.
B. American parents are happy to live with their children.
C. America has the most adult children compared with other countries.
D. It is a tradition for adult children to live with their parents in America.

【题目】There are two factors (因素) which decide an individual’s intelligence (智商). The first is the sort of brain he is born with. Human brains differ greatly, some being more capable (有能力) than others. But no matter how good a brain he has to begin with, an individual (个体) will have a low order of intelligence unless he has opportunities to learn. So the second factor is what happens to the individual—the sort of environment in which he is brought up. If an individual has less chances environmentally, it is likely that his brain will fail to develop and he will never arrive at the level of intelligence of which he is capable.
The importance of environment in deciding an individual’s intelligence can be shown by the case history of the twins. When they were three months old, their parents died, and they were placed in different homes. Peter was brought up by parents of low intelligence in a separate community with poor educational opportunities. Mark was brought up in the home of well-to-do opportunity to be encouraged intellectually.
This environmental difference continued until the twins were in their late teens, when they were given tests to measure their intelligence. Mark’s IQ was 125, twenty-five points higher than the average and fully forty points higher than his twin brother. Given equal opportunities, the twins, having similar brains, would have tested at roughly the same level.
【1】This passage can best be titled .
A. Measuring Your Intelligence

B. the brain a person is born with is important in deciding his intelligence
C. environment is important in deciding a person’s intelligence
D. persons having similar brains will have roughly the same intelligence
【4】This passage suggests that an individual’s IQ .
A. can be foretold (预言) at birth
B. stays the same throughout his life
C. can be increased by education
D. is determined by his childhood
