　　W：Yes, sure．

　　M：Could you tell me when you became interested in gardening?

　　W：Well, I was always interested in wild flowers．And then in 1980, I read Marjory Fisher’s book, Cottage Garden Flowers, which is full of practical advice and personal opinions．But I was reading about plans that I didn’t know．So I started to read as much as I could, and get different writers’ advice．I also used to visit Kew Gardens a lot．That was when we lived in Harrow West London．I learned a lot from my visits．By the way, Dorset is one of the England’s three most beautiful towns, the other two being Wiltshire and Somerset．You must know that．I am often invited to give talks to biology students in colleges．

　　M：Yes, certainly．That’s why I came here, mm．Now what was your first garden like?

　　W：It was a very tiny piece of land, which came with my house and Harrow, West London．I don’t grow many plants from seeds, but I have several friends, and we often give each other plants．My garden is a place which often reminds me of so many people through the plants they’ve given me．

　　Chico Rivera is a player on the professional baseball team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania．

　　He learned to play baseball almost as soon as he could walk．Chico was more interested in baseball than in school．When he graduated from high school in Puerto Rico, he went directly to one of the professional baseball teams on the island．After two seasons, he was selected to play for the Pittsburgh team．During his first year there, he became an important member of the team．He was still only twenty years old．

　　Travel is a way of life for Chico now．He spends the winter in Puerto Rico, where he still plays for his

　　first team．Then he goes to Florida for spring training with the Pittsburgh team．The regular season runs from April to October, so Chico spends the summer in Pittsburgh．However, the team is on the road for much of the season, so he spends a lot of time in hotels and motels．

　　Good afternoon, and welcome to England．We hope that your visit here will be a pleasant one．Today, I would like to draw your attention to a few of our laws．

　　The first one is about drinking．Now, you may not buy alcohol in this country if you are under 18 years of age．

　　Secondly, noise．Enjoy yourselves by all means, but please don’t make unnecessary noises, particularly at night．We ask you to respect other people who may wish to be quiet．

　　Thirdly, crossing the road．Be careful．The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this country．Use the crossing for walking and do not take any chances when crossing the road．

　　My next point is about litter．It is against the law to throw away waste materials in a public place．When you have something to throw away, please put it in your pocket and take it home, or put it in a litter bin．

　　Finally, as regards by saying, it is against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you are under 16 years of age．
