       Recently we had a discussion about whether we should say goodbye to “Three Merits Students” tide, which has been an honor for primary and middle school students for five decades.

       Supporters think that the traditional standards of “Three Merits Students” are out of date. It is unfair to most students as only a few can receive the title. In fact, it hurts those who fail to win the title. As we know, society is changing, and we should take that into consideration by making the award title more acceptable. What’s more, the selection process at some schools lacks transparency.

       Those who disagree hold the opinion that the standards sum up the most needed qualities for children’s growth. In order to survive in today’s highly competitive society, it’s necessary to provide children chances to perform well, and compete for success from a young age.
