    8．Dear Ms．Wang，
    I am writing to inform you of some arrangements about my composition course and Latin course next year．
    I've decided to re-establish the 5-paragraph essay as the goal for the composition course．I interviewed some of my former students and they all agreed that being able to write critically and continuously was important to them．
    So next academic year，Term 1will be like always：sentences to paragraphing．And Term 2will work toward the 5-paragraph essay．The final 3weeks of Term 2will be reserved tointroduce writing for TOEFL and CEE．By that time，if the students have done their job correctly，then they should be able to write quite well．
    As for the Latin course，I will post notices around campus next week so that the students will understand what's on offer before I actually introduce the course．A number of students already emailed me about the course．
    I am sure you don't understand what a big deal our opening this program at our school is．People around the world are interested in what we plan to do．There are many rewards available to the students who succeed in the course．Please share what I have said with the administration．I want them to understand the importance of this course．The reason I have contacted these colleagues （actually Oxford contacted me） is that  I have confidence in our students and in myself．I know that when those professors meet our students and hear them speaking and reading Latin，they are going to be amazed．It will open all sorts of doors for students that they never even thought of knocking on．

    15．Middle-class parents，who shout at their teenage children，are increasing their risk of depression and troubled behavior．Even if parents enjoy a close relationship with their son and daughter，harsh verbal discipline （严厉的口头惩戒） was found to have a bad impact on their teens'emotional development．This form of discipline can vary from yelling and shouting at a child，to swearing and using words to shame them．
    Scientists looked at 976 families in the US，most of which were middle-class．During the experiment，teens and their parents completed surveys over a two-year period on topics，which were related to their mental health and the quality of the parent-child relationship．
    About 90 percent of parents admit using harsh verbal discipline towards their children．They found that many parents changed from physical to verbal discipline as their children entered adolescence．If parents use such punishment when their child is 13，the teen is more likely to have behavioral or emotional problems later on，such as stealing，telling lies or fighting．
    There's no doubt that parents'harsh verbal discipline is damaging to the developing adolescent．The thought that harsh discipline is without consequence，once there is a strong parent-child bond，is quite wrong，because parents'warmth can't lessen the effects of harsh verbal discipline．
    Indeed，harsh verbal discipline appears to be harmful in all cases．Not only does harsh verbal discipline appear to be useless at dealing with behavior issues，it may actually add to the problem．Even if the parents were close to their child，this form of discipline still caused emotional damage．Parents'hostility （敌意） could actually lead to an increase in the risk of adolescent conduct problems．
    Dr Wang suggests parents，who want to discipline their teenage children，would benefit by talking with them about their concerns and the consequences of the behavior．The findings could influence future parenting programs，as well as encourage other methods of punishment rather than shouts and insults．

    In the project，researchers introduced a green concrete that is designed and made using conventional but particularly replaced with suitable waste and recycled materials to achieve acceptable performance，economics and sustainability．

    Due to growing interest in sustainable （可持续的）development and various pushing measures provided by the government of Malaysia，the key players in the construction industry are motivated more than ever before to use materials that are sustainable or in such a way that environment impact is minimal．
    In 2009，the Malaysian government launched the green building index（GBI） to encourage the construction of buildings using green technology，and introduced pushing measures for owners to obtain the GBI certificate for new or exiting buildings．There have been efforts to reduce air pollution and concrete has an important role to play．
