    Ian doesn't live in a typical home or have a typical lifestyle．He spent over a decade designing the systems that feature in his unique home．He bought a home automation software package and then improved it．
    Now there are 79sensors and monitors，and 48light switches in his home．Lights turn on automatically in rooms with people in them．Even being out，Ian can also control his home remotely using voice commands or his phone in any location．That is only the beginning of what this home has been programmed to do．
    It connects with online calendars，caller ID，online weather services，online address boos，and email，among other things，to get Ian through his day．For example，if there is a meeting in Ian's calendar，it will wake him up，open his bedroom curtains，start and set his shower to his desired temperature．It also informs Ian about traffic conditions．
    There is plenty more this home has been programmed to do．It keeps him updated on his favorite sports teams and scores．It even monitors online activity to check that Ian's children are doing their homework．The"dinner's ready"command stops operation of their computers and TVs．This is easier than asking his children o shut them down．
    Ian's home is unique． Most homes are not this smart，but soon more homes will be technologically advanced．

    4．Can people change their skin color without suffering like pop king Michael Jackson？Perhaps yes．Scientists have found the gene that determines skin color．
    The gene comes in two versions，one of which is found in 99percent of Europeans．The other is found in 93to 100percent of Africans，researchers at Pennsylvania State University report in the latest issue of Science．
    Scientists have changed the color of a dark-striped zebra-fish（斑马鱼） to uniform gold by inserting a version of the pigment （色素） gene into a young fish．As with humans，zebra-fish skin color is determined by pigment cells，which contain melanin （黑色素）．The number，size and darkness of melanin per pigment cell determine skin color．
    It appears that，like the golden zebra-fish，light-skinned Europeans also have a mutation （变异） in the gene for melanin production．This results in less pigmented skin．
    However，Keith Cheng，leader of the research team，points out that the mutation is different in human and zebra-fish genes．
    Humans acquired dark skin in Africa about 1.5million years ago to protect bodies from ultra-violet rays of the sun （太阳光紫外线），which can cause skin cancer．
    But when modern humans leave Africa to live in northern latitudes，they need more sunlight on their skin to produce vitamin D．So the related gene changes，according to Cheng．
    Asians have the same version of the gene as Africans，so they probably acquired their light skin through the action of some other gene that affects skin color，said Cheng．
