18.When I was about twelve,I headed to a restaurant for dinner with my family. It was winter, and on that particular night, the wind was really blowing. As my mom and I headed towards the restaurant from our car,a girl about my age and her mother came up to us.They asked if we had any spare change. My mom immediately asked where they kept their things. They pointed to an old car in a parking across the street. The girl said there were six of them living in that car, which was the same size as my own family.
My mom said she had something to do after handing the people a few dollars. She sent me inside the restaurant with my dad and my three siblings(兄弟姐妹).But she didn't come.
Later,I found out she had gone home and practically emptied our cupboards into a few bags. Then, she brought that food over to the car and handed the bags to the family.I wasn't there when that part happened, but I can only imagine the joy it brought to their faces.
A few days later, when I actually found out about what she had done,I asked her why she helped those people. She told me that they were not lucky.I remember the face of that girl who had asked us for change; she was the same age as me,yet we looked so different.
Here I stood, dressed in almost new clothes, headed to dine in a restaurant and then back home to the bedroom I shared with my younger sister.I remember thinking that the girl didn't have any food to eat and that she was heading back to a cold car shared with five other people. After painting this picture in my mind,I understood why my mom had done what she did.I will never forget what she did that night, and how she taught me one of the best lessons I ever learned.

34.How did the author feel when she knew what her mother had done?A

B.Her mother shouldn't help the strangers.
C.She must work hard to reward her mother.
D.She was unlucky to have such living conditions.
35.What is the best title of the passage?D
A.How to support the poor family
B.A friend in need is a friend in deed
C.The hard life of a little girl's family
D.A lesson in kindness from my mum.

分析 妈妈在遇到需要帮助的人时,热心帮助,她的行为告诉我要善待他人,做一个有爱心乐于助人的人.

解答 33.A 推理判断题.根据第一段They asked if we had any spare change."女孩和她的妈妈向作者的妈妈讨要零钱"以及The girl said there were six of them living in that car"她们住在一辆旧汽车里",可以推断出她们的生活很困难.D项是该段最后一句直接给出的信息,非推断所得,故选A.
34.A 推理判断题.根据文章第四、五段的内容可知,I remember thinking that the girl didn't have any food to eat and that she was heading back to a cold car shared with five other people.

3.Nuclear power's danger to health,safety,and even life itself can be summed up in one word:radiation.
Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery about it,partly because it cannot be detected by human senses.It can't be seen or heard,or touched or tasted,even though it may be all around us.There are other things like that.For example,radio waves are all around us but we can't detect them,sense them,without a radio receiver.Similarly,we can't sense radioactivity without a radiation detector.But unlike common radio waves,nuclear radiation is not harmless to human beings and other living things.
At very high levels,radiation can kill an animal or human being immediately by killing masses of cells in vital organs.But even the lowest levels can do serious damage.There is no levels of radiation that is completely safe.If the radiation does not hit anything important,the damage may not be serious.This is the case when only a few cells are hit,and if they are killed immediately.Your body will replace the dead cells with healthy ones.But if the few cells are only damaged,and if they reproduce themselves,you may be in trouble.They reproduce themselves in a deformed way.They can grow into cancer.Sometimes this does not show up for many years.
This is another reason for some of the mystery about nuclear radiation.Serious damage can be done without the victim being aware at the time that damage has occurred.A person can be irradiated(辐射)and feel fine,then die for cancer five,ten,or twenty years later as a result.Or a child can be born weak as a result of radiation absorbed by its grandparents.Radiation can hurt us.We must know the truth.
32.How can nuclear radiation kill an animal?D
A.By damaging its heart.
B.By killing a few cells.
C.By hitting any place in its body.
D.By killing many cells in important organs.
33.The word"deformed"in paragraph 3has the similar meaning toA.
A.unnatural      B.normal      C.usual      D.proper
34.What can we infer from the passage?D
A.We can't detect radioactivity even with modern equipment.
B.Only radiation at very high levels can kill an animal or human being.
C.If a few cells are only damaged,healthy cells will take the place of dead ones.
D.Radiation is harmful no matter what level it is.
35.What's the author's main purpose in writing this passage?C
A.Discussing the cause of cancer.
B.Solving the mystery about radiation.
C.Emphasizing the importance of protection of radiation.
D.Introducing the nuclear power.

10.Children have their own rules in playing games.They seldom need a referee(裁判) and rarely trouble to keep scores.They don't care much about who wins or loses,and it doesn't seem to worry them if the game is not finished.Yet,they like games that depend a lot on luck,so that their personal abilities cannot be directly compared.They also enjoy games that move in stages,in which each stage,the choosing of leaders,the picking-up of sides,or the determining of which side shall start,is almost a game in itself.
Grown-ups can hardly find children's games exciting,and they often feel puzzled(迷惑的)at why their kids play such simple games again and again.However,it is found that a child plays games for very important reasons.He can be a good player without having to think whether he is a popular person,and he can find himself being a useful partner to someone of whom he is ordinarily afraid.He becomes a leader when it comes to his turn.He can be confident,too,in particular games,that it is his place to give orders,to pretend to be dead,to throw a ball actually at someone,or to kiss someone he has caught.
It appears to us that when children play a game they imagine a situation under their control.Everyone knows the rules,and more importantly,everyone plays according to the rules.Those rules may be childish,but they make sure that every child has a chance to win.

32.What is true about children when they play games?A
A.They can stop playing any time they like.
B.They can test their personal abilities.
C.They want to pick a better team.
D.They don't need rules.
33.To become a leader in a game the child has toB.
A.play well
B.wait for his turn
C.be confident in himself
D.be popular among his playmates
34.Why does a child like playing games?A
A.Because he can be someone other than himself.
B.Because he can become popular among friends.
C.Because he finds he is always lucky in games.
D.Because he likes the place where he plays a game.
35.The writer believes thatC.
A.children should make better rules for their games.
B.children should invite grown-ups to play with them.
C.children's games can do them a lot of good.
D.children play games without reasons.

7.Thinking
Some scientists claim that we humans are the only living things that are conscious-we alone are aware that we are thinking.
No one knows how consciousness works-it is one of science's last great mysteries.
All your thoughts take place in the cerebrum(大脑皮质),which is at the top of your brain, and different kinds of thought are linked to different areas, called association areas.
Each half of the cerebrum has four rounded ends called lobes(脑叶)-two at the front(frontal and temporal lobes) and two at the back(occipital and parietal lobes). The frontal lobe is linked to your personality an it is where you have your bright ideas. The temporal lobe is where you hear and understand what people say to you.The occipital lobe is where you record touch, heat and cold, and pain. The left half of the brain controls the right side of the body. The right half controls the left side. One half of the brain is always dominant in charge).Usually, the left side brain is dominant, which is why 90% of people are right-handed.

Job applicants in the West increasingly find themselves asked strange questions like this.And the signs are that this is beginning to happen in China.
Employers want people skilled,enthusiastic and devoted.So these are the qualities that any reasonably intelligent job applicants will try to show no matter what his or her actual feelings are.In response,employers are increasingly using questions which try and show the applicant's true personality.
The question in the first paragraph comes from a test called the Keirsey Personality Sorter.It is an attempt to discover how people solve problems,rather than what they know.This is often called an aptitude test (能力倾向测验).
According to Mark Baldwin,many job applicants in China are finding this type of questions difficult.When a Chinese person fills out an aptitude test,he or she will think there is a right answer and they may fail because they try to guess what the examiner wants to see.
This is sometimes called the prisoner's dilemma.Applicants are trying to act cleverly in their own interest.But they fail because they don't understand what the interviewer is looking for.Remember that in an aptitude test,the correct answer is always the honest answer.

B.tell you how to meet a job interviewer
C.describe the aptitude test
D.advise you how to find a job
29.Why do the interviewers ask such questions?C
A.They want to discover what the interviewees know.
B.They are curious about the answers.
C.They try to discover the ability of the interviewees solving problems.
D.They just ask questions without thinking much.
30.According to the writer,in an aptitude test,Chinese job applicants shouldB.
A.not tell the truth
