Jerry is a popular manager of a restaurant. It was his attitude  21  made the waiters follow him. He was a natural motivator (鼓舞人心的人). If a(n)  22  was having a bad day, Jerry was always there, telling him/her how to look on the  23  side of the situation.
This attitude really made me  24, so one day I asked him, “I don’t get it! No one can be a positive person  25. How can you manage it?”
“Every time something bad happens, I can choose to  26  it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining and I can 27  the positive side of life. Why don’t we just do that later?” Jerry said.
Jerry told me an unusual story out of his experience. One day he left the back door of his restaurant  28  and was robbed by three men. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from  29 , slipped off the combination (开启号码的号码组合). The robbers got angry and  30 him.
31 , Jerry was found quickly and taken to the hospital. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of care, Jerry  32  with fragments (碎片) of the bullets (子弹) still in his body.
I saw Jerry about six months after the  33 . I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place. “Did you lose consciousness? Weren’t you  34 ?” I asked.
“No,” Jerry said, “35  when I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared.”
“A nurse asked if I was allergic (过敏的) to anything. ‘Yes’ I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped  36  as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘37 !’”
“Over the laughter, I told them, ‘Please  38  on me as if I am alive, not dead.’”
Jerry survived  39  the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. Attitude, after all, is  40 .

A Tchaikovsky concerto(协奏曲)is what made Romel Joseph fall in love with the violin.
He learned how to play in Haiti, where he was born, but a Fulbright scholarship brought him to the United States, and he finally earned a master’s degree, reports CBS News reporter Katie Couric. Music had changed his life. He wanted to do the same for the children of Haiti.
Joseph built a school in Port-au-Prince nearly 20 years ago. He was on the third floor when suddenly “It was like boom boom boom and everything just opened,” Joseph said. “And the next thing I knew I was on the ground.”
Blind since birth, Joseph tried to feel his way out, but was pinned(夹)beneath heavy concrete(混凝土). He remained trapped for 18 hours. He prays that his new wife, seven months pregnant(怀孕的), will be found.
He is now being treated at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital for two injured legs and an arm.
Joseph wonders if he’ll ever play the violin again. He can feel sensation(知觉)in his fingertips. He said, “If you were to give me a violin and if I didn’t have to fold the fingers, I would be able to play.”
Joseph’s daughter Victoria spent three terrifying days unsure of her father’s fate. For her, having him home is the sweetest music.
“Can you imagine your dad not being able to play the violin?” Couric asked.
“No, I can’t,” Victoria Joseph said. “But I will love him all the same if he can’t.”
Romel doesn’t know how many of his 300 students died in the quake. As he waits for news about his wife, Romel Joseph is already planning a return to Haiti to rebuild the school and continue teaching there.

On March 5, 2009, Michael Jackson stood in front of crowds of fans. Before screaming fans, he pronounced with pumping arms: "This is it!"
A few months later, Jackson was dead. With the late pop star’s return to radio, television and the cultural events, Forbes judges that Jackson has made $90 million since his death June 25.This figure is based on his royalties(版税) from album sales, radio play, rights to his name and royalties from his stock in the Sony/ATV music catalog (编目权).
Jackson's music was his most easily-seen source in the last months.“Nothing increases the value of an artist than death ...an untimely death,” says Barry Massarsky, a music industry economist.
The music's immediate value was clear.Since June, Jackson has sold more than 5.9 million albums in the U.S.and another 4.5 million overseas. In the first weeks after his death, there were 5.6 million single downloads across North America, Europe and Australia.Jackson recently has three of the top 20 best-selling albums of the year in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan. His 2003 hits album Number Ones is the best seller of the year, beating Taylor Swift's Fearless.
More than 500,000 Jackson ringtones and 100,000 music videos were sold.In the week following his death, songs by The Jackson 5, The Jacksons and Michael were played over 100,000 times on the radio, according to Nielsen BDS.
Jackson's estate(遗产)will likely see more money by the end of this year, as it has rights to some of the profits from This Is It as well as the two-disc album of the same name. The estate will share 90% of the film profits with AEG.
Ticket sales from an exhibit opening in London will also contribute a likely profit.Hundreds of Jackson's personal belongings-his L.A.Rolls Royce etc-will remain on show for three months at the O2 Arena for fans willing to shell out $25 for a view.
The pop singer bought ATV Publishing, for $47.5 million in 1985.Ten years later, he sold the catalog to Sony for $95 million and took a 50% stock in Sony/ATV, which is now worth about $1.7 to $2 billion. So he still owned half the Sony/ATV catalog at his death.
Jackson's future earning potential is based on his stock in valuable music as well as the value of his image(肖像).As many musicians, actors and artists before him, Jackson's fame could have a long tail on the market with allowable products, advertising and entertainment events.
小题1:What do Barry Massarsky’s words in Paragraph 3 imply?
A.Jackson died at the time as expected.
B.Only at death can an artist become famous.
C.Jackson became more famous at death than when he was alive.
D.Jackson’s unexpected death raised his value as an artist immediately.
小题2:All the following is true EXCEPT that _____.

B.Jackson has sold 10.4 million albums since June
C.Jackson’s L.A.Rolls Royce is now for show and will finally be sold
D.Jackson’s stock in music and his image will keep on earning money in the future
小题3:What can be inferred from the passage?
A.Jackson’s album Number Ones beat Taylor Swift’s Fearless in 2003.
B.Taylor Swift’s Fearless is the second best seller of music albums of 2009.
C.AEG takes in more film profits from “This is it” than Jackson’s estate.
