【题目】Were you the first or the last child in your family? Or were you a middle or an only child? Some people think it matters where you were born in your family. But there 【1】(be) different ideas about 【2】 birth order means. Some people say that the oldest children, 【3】are smart and strong-willed, are very likely to succeed. The reason for this is simple. Parents have a lot of time for their first child and give him or her a lot of attention. An only child will succeed for【4】same reason.
What happens to the other children in the family? Middle children don’t get so much attention, so they don’t feel that important. If a family has many children, the middle one sometimes gets 【5】(lose) in the crowd. The youngest child, 【6】, often gets special treatment. Often this child grows up to be funny. 【题目】My first book had been rejected by every major American publisher. My first agent, wasn’t communicating. My dream of a life as a successful author was in tatters.
“It isn’t going to happen,” I said to my friend. “And I have to accept it.”
“If you lose faith in your product, no one else will have faith in it,” she told me.
And, I knew she was right. But, how could I believe in myself when I hit a wall at every turn? I knew I had a good product. The book featured interviews with world-famous people who had learned how to succeed and lead—the hard way. It had information that could help other people. As a consumer, I would have loved that book because it had the great wisdom I so desperately needed. And, their stories made for good reading. I had a good book. What I didn’t have was a publisher. I had to find a way to get that book sold and on the shelves. But, how?
The hardest challenge was forcing myself to do battle again. I had to find the strength to believe in myself when it seemed like no one else believed in me. When I hit a wall, I usually need to get more information to figure out what is going wrong. So, I did some research and found out that my initial vision for the book-where all the interview subjects got their own chapters-wasn’t marketable to big publishers because that format does not sell tons of books. What I had to do was recognize, restructure and rewrite.
I needed an agent. There are thousands of agents. Surely one of them was right for me. So, I started sending out query(询问)letters. Within a week, I had a dozen agents who wanted the book. I chose the one who I thought would believe in me and my dream. She did get me my choices of publishers.
Hard won Wisdom wound up being a best-selling book. But, it almost never was.

C. The structure of it. D. The introduction part.
【4】What does the author’s story tell us?

C. Every man has his faults. D. Never judge a book by its cover.

【题目】How to Live a Happy Life
Happiness is what we need most with the increase of pressure in modern life. 【1】 Fortunately, this is not the case. Everyone has the ability to hang on to happiness with his own efforts. The following methods may lead you to long-lasting happiness.
Take exercise. Other than health benefits that are too numerous to mention, exercise makes you smarter, happier, improves sleep, and makes you feel better about your body.【2】 Keeping in touch with nature can help you reduce stress, make you more creative, improve your memory and may even make you a better person.
【3】 Relationships are worth more than you think. Not feeling socially connected can make you stupider and kill you. Loneliness can lead to heart attack, stroke (中风) and diabetes (肥胖症). On the other hand, studies have shown that the longest lived people on the planet all place a strong emphasis on social engagement.
Challenge Yourself.【4】 Music lessons increase intelligence. Challenging your beliefs strengthens your mind. Increasing willpower just takes a little effort each day and it’s more responsible for your success than IQ. Not getting an education or taking advantage of opportunities are two of the things people look back on their lives and regret the most.
Laugh. Laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, the heart rate and the rate of breathing; it also works several groups of muscles in the face, the stomach, and the feet. It can even reduce the effect of pain on the body. Humor is a good way to cause laughter.【5】
A. Life is always full of hope.
B. Spend time with friends and family.
C. However, sometimes it seems far away from us.
D. It would be better if you take exercise in nature.
E. Do something kind for the people you care about.
F. Learning another language can keep your mind sharp.
G. Just thinking about funny moments or things can help a lot.
